General 1 Scope This Part of this British Standard specifies materials, quality, design and construction of wall hung and pedestal wash basins with one or three tap holes in the tap platform with or without an overflow and/or a chain stay hole, and. 2 References T
15、he titles of the publications referred to in this Part of this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 3 Marking Wash basins manufactured to the requirements of this standard shall be permanently marked with the following information. a) The manufacturers name or identification mark. b) The nu
16、mber of this British Standard, i.e.,BS5506-3. c) Either EN 31 or EN 32 as appropriate. 4 Inspection The purchaser or his representative shall, if required, be granted facilities for the purpose of carrying out inspection prior to delivery. 5 Rejection The purchaser shall have the option of rejecting
17、 any wash basin purporting to meet the requirements of this standard if it fails to meet any of the requirements laid down therein. Minor imperfections which do not affect the appearance or efficiency of the article shall not constitute valid reasons for rejection. Section 2. Materials and quality 6
18、 Materials Wash basins shall be manufactured from the following materials. a) Vitreous china NOTEOther materials may be considered at a later date. 7 Quality The quality of materials shall be as follows, a) Vitreous china. Vitreous china shall comply with the requirements of BS3402. NOTEIf other mat
19、erials are considered, requirements for quality will be added at a later date. Section 3. Dimensions, design and construction 8 Dimensions Wash basins shall comply with the connecting dimensions given in BS5506-1 EN 31 or BS5506-2EN 32, as appropriate. 9 Platform for supply fittings The level of the
20、 top of the platform which accommodates the supply fittings shall not be belowthe spill over level of the basin irrespective ofthe position of the overflow. 10 Overflow Wash basins shall be supplied in either of the following conditions: a) the basin shall be supplied without an overflow; or b) the
21、basin shall be supplied with an overflow having an operative area of not less than600mm 2with a minimum vertical height of15mm. It shall be located completely below thespillover of the basin. NOTEUnless otherwise specified by the purchaser at the time of enquiry or order the basin will be supplied w
22、ith an overflow. 11 Pedestals Pedestals for wash basins shall comply with the following requirements. a) They shall be recessed at the back to take supply and waste pipes and fittings. b) They shall rigidly and adequately support the wash basin. c) The combined height of wash basin and pedestal shal
23、l be800mm 2% measured from the top of the rim at the front of the basin to the floor level. 12 Soap sinking(s) Any soap sinking(s) shall adequately drain into the bowl and not into the overflow. 13 Chain stay hole Wash basins shall be supplied in either of the following conditions: a) the basin shal
24、l not have a chain stay hole; or b) the basin shall have a chain stay hole of81mm in diameter located as high as is practicable within the bowl. If an overflow is provided, the chain stay hole shall be located above the level of the top of the overflow. NOTEUnless otherwise specified by the purchase
