It covers factory produced dry mixes of cement, aggregates and, when used, admix

12、tures which are supplied in packages for the do-it-yourself and retail trades. It is intended that the contents of these packages should be mixed on site with the only addition being water. Part 1 of the standard covers prepacked concrete mixes of two grades; coarse concrete mixes containing aggrega

13、te of a nominal maximum size of 20mm and fine concrete mixes containing aggregate of a nominal maximum size of 10mm. Part 2 of the standard covers prepacked cement : lime : sand mortar mixes, and cement : sand mortar mixes for brick-laying, screeding and other building purposes. A British Standard d

21、properties of concrete mixes 6.1 Aggregate sizes. The concrete shall be described as coarse when the nominal maximum size of aggregate is 20mm and as fine when the nominal maximum size of the aggregate is 10mm. 6.2 Compressive strength. The compressive strength at 28 days shall be determined as deta

The volume yield shall be determined as detailed in clause9 and shall be not less than95% of the nominal volume yield indicated on the package. It shall be reported as the volume of concrete inm 3produced per unit package. 7 Pac

Identification and marking of packages shall include the following particulars. a) The number of this British Standard, i.e. BS5838-1. b) Product description. c) Mass and nominal volume yield. d) Description of any admixture. e) Indication of health and safety

24、requirements. f) Advice on storage. g) The name, trademark or other means of identification of the manufacturer or vendor. h) Advice on use and mixing. 7.2 Package construction. The strength of the package shall be adequate to contain the mass of dry concrete mix for which it is intended. The materi

The sample, when received in the laboratory, shall be rendered homogeneous and, if necessary, be reduced in size by coning and quartering, or by any other suitable sampling means, to about 25kg. 9.3 Mixing of sample. The weighed, prepared sample (see9.2) shal

The workability of the concrete shall be measured by the slump test specified in BS 1881-2 and shall be between50mm and75mm. If th

29、e slump is less than50mm then further water may be added and mixed in to reach the required workability. If the slump is more than75mm the test shall be repeated with a new prepared sample as specified in9.2, using less water. The amount of water to achieve the required workability shall be recorded

30、 as the water requirement and expressed as a percentage by mass of solid ingredients to the nearest 0.1%. 9.5 Volume yield. Immediately after completion of the slump test, the wet bulk density of the fresh concrete shall be determined to the nearest 10kg/m 3in accordance with the requirements of BS1
