21、eofunplasticizedpoly(vinylchloride)(PVCU)pipes todichloromethaneataspecifiedtemperature(DCMT). ThisstandardisapplicabletoPVCUpipes,irrespectiveoftheiruse. Themethodcanbeusedasarapidmeansofqualitycontrolduringmanufacture. NOTE ThetemperatureofthedichloromethaneatwhichPVCUshallnotbeattacked,isspecifie
22、dinthereferringstandard. 2Principle ApieceofPVCUpipe,ofspecifiedlength,chamferedatoneendtoanangledependentonitsthickness,is immersedfor(301)minindichloromethaneataspecifiedtemperaturetoverifythatthePVCUisnotattackedat thattemperature.Thesurfaceareaofthedichloromethaneisminimizedandcoveredbyathicklay
23、erofwateron topforsafetyreasonsandtoreduceevaporation.Afterimmersioninthedichloromethane,thetestpieceisleftfor “drippingoff”inthewaterlayerbeforefinaldryingandinspection. NOTE1 IfthePVCUhasnotsufficientlygelled,whiteningofthesurfacewilloccurand,intheworstcase,aprecipitatewill be observed. NOTE2 Itis
24、assumedthatthefollowingtestparametersaresetbythestandardmakingreferencetothisstandard: a) thecontroltemperature, T,forthedichloromethane(see4.3and6.3); b) theminimumwallthicknessforwhichthetestshallbeapplied. 3Reagent Dichloromethane,technicalgrade. NOTE Dichloromethane,technicalgrade,containssmallq
25、uantities(1%maximumeach)ofchloromethane(CH 3 Cl),of trichloromethane(CHCl 3 )andoftetrachloromethane(CCl 4 ).Ithasbeennotedthateveniftheleveloftheseimpuritieswereto attain5%intotal,theresultswouldnotbesignificantlydifferent. WARNING Theboilingtemperatureofdichloromethaneislow(40C).Consequently,ithas
26、ahighvapour pressureatambienttemperature.Further,itcanbetoxictoskinandeyes.Itis,therefore,necessarytotake precautionswhenhandlingdichloromethaneortestpieces,whichhavebeenimmersedinit. Thevapoursarealsotoxic:thethresholdlimitvalue(T.L.V.)comparabletothemaximumadmissible concentration(M.A.C.)is100ml/m

30、ger tests,whichcanbefilledwithwater(seeannexB).Thetemperaturecontrolandstirringcantakeplaceintheold vesselincasethenewcontainerisrelativelysmallandmadefromaheattransferringmateriallikestainlesssteel. Thegratingshouldbemadesoitcanbepositionedin2levelsasfollows: a) withtheappropriatepartofthetestpiece
31、orsectionsoftestpieceimmersedinthedichloromethane; b) withthepartofthetestpiece(s)whichwereimmersedinthedichloromethanefullyimmersedinthewaterbut notincontactwiththedichloromethane. 4.3 Refrigerationequipment ,capableofcoolingthedichloromethanetothetemperatureasspecifiedinthe referringstandard. 4.4
