Itprovidesthemeanswherebythetreatabilityofsapwoodorheartwoodofdifferentwoodspeciescanbe determinedinordertodeterminelikelyreactiontoimpregnationwithwoodpreservatives.Suchanassessment providesdataforuseinEN3511whichestablishesasystemforspecifyingthetr
15、eatmentofwoodwithwood preservativesbaseduponthepenetrationandretentionofpreservativesachievedbythetreatmentprocess. EN3511recognisesthatdifferentwoodspeciesrespondtotreatmentdifferentlydependingontheirabilityto absorbpreservative,andrequiresadifferentlevelofcompliancedependingonthetreatabilityofthew
16、ood concerned.WhileEN3502includesasubjectiveclassificationofthetreatabilityofdifferentwoodspeciesusinga fourclasssystem,themethoddescribedinthisdocumentprovidesthemeanstodeterminethetreatability objectively. Althoughthemethoddescribedusesanaqueoussolutionastheimpregnatingliquid,theresultscanbeusedto
17、 giveguidanceonthetreatabilityofthesamplesundertest.Alternatively,themethodcanbemodifiedusingother preservativetypes,egorganicsolventoremulsionpreparations,iftheresponseofthewoodtoaspecific preservativeisrequired.However,itshouldbenotedthatthemethoddoesnottakeaccountofpreservative formulationswheret
