、ds, Norway, Portugal Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom Page 3 EN 194411996 1 Scope The standard specifies a method to measure the force required to unwind a roll of adhesive tape at low speed under standard test conditions. 2 Definition For the purposes of this standard, the followin
、g definition applies . unwind adhesion : The force required to unroll the tape under prescribed conditions. 3 Principle The roll of adhesive tape is mounted on a mandrel so that it can turn without appreciable friction The mandrel is fixed in one clamp of the tensile testing machine and the free end
、 of the adhesive tape is fixed in the other clamp and the unrolling force is measured. 4 Apparatus 4.1 Tensile testing machine with the following characteristics : - the force shall be indicated with a maximum error of 2 YO ; - the speed of the moveable clamp shall be 300 mm/min i 30 mm/min ; - the
、scale shall be such that the readings obtained are between 15 YO and 85 YO of the complete scale ; - the clamps shall be serrated to prevent slipping or tearing of the adhesive tape - if a pendulum machine is used, ensure that the pendulum can swing freely. 4.2 mandrel shall be capable of turning fr
、eely on its axis without appreciable friction. Mandrel and mounting the assembly shall conform generally to that shown in fig. i. The 5 Test pieces Select for test a roll of adhesive tape at least 1 O metres long and preferably 25 mm wide. Condition the sample roll for 24 h at 23 “C f 2 “C and 50 O/
、O I 5 % relative humidity. Discard at least 3 outer turns of adhesive tape from the roll. Page 4 EN 1944:1996 6 Procedure 6.1 Standard test conditions : The test shall be carried out at 23 “C f 2 “C and 50 % f 5 YO relative humidity 6.2 tensile testing machine. Reset the machine to zero. Mount the r
、oll of adhesive tape on the mandrel and fix the assembly in one clamp of the Attach the free end of the adhesive tape in the other clamp. Set the speed at 300 mmmin i 30 mm/min and start the tensile test machine After the driven clamp has moved 25 mm, record the mean and the minimum and maximum valu
、es recorded during the next 1 minute. If necessary, continue the test until at least one complete turn of tape has been unwound. Carry out 5 tests at approximately equal intervals (about 2 metres) 7 Expression of results Express the results in newtons per centimetre width of adhesive tape Record the
、 individual minimum and maximum readings and the arithmetic mean of the five values. Since the measurements made using different types of tensile testing machines (for example, electronic or pendulum) may not be directly comparable. The type of tensile testing machine used shall be indicated in the
、report. 8 Testreport The test report shall include the following information a) a reference to this European Standard ; b) all information necessary to identify the test sample ; c) the type of tensile testing machine used , d) the date of the test ; e) the results obtained ; f) any operation not specified in this European Standard, which can influence the results.
