2、 SCOPE AND CLASSIFICATION 1.1 Scope. This specification is intended primarily to cover the requirements for supported rubberized hair padding for use as upholstered furniture cushioning and for other similar applications (see 6.1). 1.2 Classification. 1.2.1 %es and classes. The padding shall be of t

3、he following types and classes, as specified (see. 6.2). Type I - Curled hair (horsehair, cattlehair, and hog hair). Class 1 - 1 inch thick. Class 2 - 1-1/2 inches thick. Class 3 - 2 inches thick. The curled animal hair fibers for padding shall consist of horsehair, cattlehair and hog hair. All hair fibers shall be of virgin quality and sh

16、all be well sterilized (see 4.3.5). 3.2.2 Cloth (supporting). The supporting or backing cloth shall conform to the following minimum requirements, when tested in accordance with 4.3.3: Cloth - Cotton, rayon, polyester, or combination thereof. Weave - Leno. Yarns per inch: warp - 12 (min.). Filling -

Type II padding shall consist of 100 percent prime winter hog hair (see 4.3.5) coated with a minimum of 40 percent rubber, by weight (see 3.3.7) and then suitably cyed. of the type specified in 3.2.3. The supporting or backing cloth, 3.?.2, shall be securely bonded to one side of the padding sheet when examined in accordance with 4.2.2.1. 3.3.4 Rubber coating. Padding shall contain not less t

23、han 40.0 percent, by weight, of rubber 3.2.3, thoroughiy coating the hair and suitably cured, when tested in accordance with 4.3.4.1. 3.3.5 Tackiness. There shall be no noticeable tackiness of the padding when examined in accordance with 4.2.2.1. _. 3.3.6 Compression set. The compression set of the

24、padding shall not exceed 7.0 percent of the original thickness of the padding when tested in accordance with 4.3.1.1.2. 3.3.7 Weight. with 4.3.2- The finished weight of the paddings shall be as follows, when tested in accordance 5/8 inch thick - 2.5 ounces per square foot (min, - 3.5 ounces per squa

25、re foot (min. 1 inch thick 1-1/2 inches thick - 4.0-ounces per square foot (min,), 2 inches thick - 5.0 ounces per square foot (min.). 3.3.8 Dimensions of padding sheets. Unless otherwise specified the padding shall measure 24 inches by 72 inches with a plus or minus tolerance of 1/2 inch in either

26、or both directions (see 4.2.2.2). 3.3.9 Workmanship. The finished padding shall conform to the quality established by-this specifi- cation. The occurrence of defects shall not exceed the applicable acceptable quality levels (AQLs). 4, QUALTPY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. U

27、nless otherwise specified in the contract or purchaser order, the supplier is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except 8s otherwise specified in the contract or order, the supplier may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance

28、of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless dis- approved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure that supplies and services conform to prescribed requireme

29、nts. 4.1.1 Certificate of compliance. Where certificates of compliance are submitted, the Government reserves the right to check test such items to determine the validity of he certification. 4.2 Inspection. Sampling for inspection shall be performed in accordance with MIL-SPD-105, except where othe

30、rwise indicated hereinafter. 4.2.1 Component and material inspection. In accordance with.4.1 above, components and materials shall be tested in accordance with all the requirements of referenced specifications, drawings and standards unless otherwise excluded, amended, modified or qualified in the s

31、pecification or applicable purchase document. 4.2.2 Inspection of end item. 4.2.2.1 Visual examination. Examination of the end item shall be in accordance with the defects listed below and the acceptable quality levels (AGs) shall be as specified in 4.2.2.3. of sampling, all padding of the same type
