1、 INCH-POUND MIL-DTL-43994D 15 APRIL 2008 SUPERSEDING MIL-M-43994C 2 January 1991 DETAIL SPECIFICATION MARKER, IDENTIFICATION, FIRE, CHEMICAL HAZARD, AND RESTRICTED AREA, REFLECTIVE This specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. Scope 1.1 Scope

2、. This specification covers markers processed on pressure-sensitive adhesive backed retroreflective sheeting. 1.2 Classification. The markers will be of the following types, marker numbers, sizes, and classes as specified (see 6.2): Type I - Fire Hazard Marker 1 - Hazard class 1.1 Marker 2 - Hazard

3、class 1.2 Marker 3 - Hazard class 1.3 Marker 4 - Hazard class 1.4 Size - 24 inch Size - 12 inch Type II - Chemical Hazard Marker 5 - Wear full protective clothing Class 1 - Red Class 2 - Yellow Class 3 - White Comments, suggestions, or questions on this document should be addressed to Defense Supply

PACKAGING 5.1 Packaging. For acquisition purposes, the packaging requirements shall be as speci

6、fied in the contract or order (see 6.2). When packaging of material is to be performed by DoD or inhouse contractor personnel, these personnel need to contact the responsible packaging activity to ascertain packaging requirements. Packaging requirements are maintained by the Inventory Control Points

7、 packaging activities within the Military Services or Defense Agency, or within the military services system commands. Packaging data retrieval is available from the managing Military Departments or Defense Agencys automated packaging files, CD-ROM products, or by contacting the responsible packagin

8、g activity. 6. NOTES (This section contains information of a general or explanatory nature that may be helpful, but is not mandatory.) 6.1 Intended use. Type I markers are intended to convey fire fighting personnel the kind of hazard presented by fires involving various types of ammunition and explo

9、sives in storage. Type II markers identify the type of chemical agent in storage and the type of precautions to be taken in fighting fires involving specific chemical agents (see 6.4). Type III markers (decals) are intended for use as a means of warning individuals as to the restrictions of the area

10、 they are entering. 6.2 Acquisition requirements. Acquisition documents must specify the following: a. Title, number, and date of this specification. b. Type, marker number, class, and size (see 1.2). c. When a first article is required (see 3.1, 4.2 and 6.3). d. Packaging requirements. Provided by

When a first article is required, it shall be inspected and approved under the appropriate provisions of FAR 52.209. The first article should be a preproduction sample. The contra

12、cting officer should specify the appropriate type of first article and the number of units to be furnished. The contracting officer should also include specific instructions in acquisition documents regarding arrangements for selection, inspection, and approval of the first article. 6.4 User informa

13、tion. When markers 8, 10, 11 or 12 are used, marker 5, class 1 (red) must also be used. When marker 9 is used, marker 5, class 2 (yellow) must also be used. When marker 7 is used, marker 6 must also be used. 6.5 Shelf-life. This specification covers items where the assignment of a Federal shelf-life

14、 code is a consideration. Specific shelf-life requirements should be specified in the contract or purchase order, and should include, as a minimum, shelf-life code, shelf-life package markings in accordance with MIL-STD-129 or FED-STD-123, preparation of a material quality storage standard for type

15、II (extendible) shelf-life items, and a minimum of 85 percent shelf-life remaining at time of receipt by the Government. These and other requirements, if necessary, are in DoD 4140.27-M, Shelf-life Management Manual. The shelf-life codes are in the Federal Logistics Information System Total Item Rec

16、ord. Additive information for shelf-life management may be obtained from DoD 4140.27-M, or the designated shelf-life Points of Contact (POC). The POC should be contacted in the following order: (1) the Inventory Control Points that manage the item and (2) the DoD Services and Agency administrators f

17、or the DoD Shelf-Life Program.
