16、bling System. Type 8 cable consists of 2 parallel pairs of data grade wires shielded with copper foil, all cabled into a single, flat, PVC assembly with tapered flanges on each side to reduce visibility when installed under ,carpet. The Cabling System is intended to be compatible with IEEE Standard

17、802.5. It is designed to be used as a total building wiring system. The Cabling System may be used as the communications medium for a Token Ring Network as well as for other data equipment. 1.2 OBJECTIVE The objective of the Detail Specification is to provide a document describing Type 8 UC cable as

18、 a basis for certification under the KECQ system and for acquisition of conforming cable. e 2.0 GENERAL DATA 4 2.1 GENERAL Cable provided under this Detail Specification shall conform to all general and specific requirements applicable to Type 8 UC cable in Omnibus Specification EIA/IS-43, Exchange

19、Cable for Use with Data Processing Equipment, and those requirements specified herein. 2.2 ORDERING INFORMATION Orders for cable covered by this Detail Specification shall include the following information: 1. Identification of cable type 2. Length required . 3. Special requirements of reel size or

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS The cable must be listed by an appropriate test agency as meeting the requirements of the National Electrical Co

21、de for “CL2“ or “C?l“ cable. In addition, U.L. application approval must designate undercarpet cable for use in an office environment which includes the possibility of power crosses, immersion in Carpet cleaning solutions, water and steam exposure, as well as the alkaline nature of concrete. Compres

22、sive loads (table legs, high heel shoes, chair casters, etc.) and abrasion resistance must also be considered. 3.2 F.C.C REQUIREMENTS In addition to the FCC requirements listed in the Omnibus Specification, any length of completed cable should be capable of meeting the requirements of FCC Part 68 (4

23、7 Code of Federal Regulations, Section 66) concerning high voltage breakdown. 4.0 SPECIFIC CABLE REQUIREMENTS 4.1 CONFIGURATION 4.1.1 CONDUCTORS Cable Type 8 UC contains two flat, parallel pairs of DG?I wires. 26、age 5 4.2.5 HIGH VOLTAGE BREAKDOWN The minimum high voltage breakdown between any two conductors or between any conductor and an external water bath shall be 1500 VRMS at 60 Hz. The purpose of this requirement is to insure an adequately insulated composite cable in the case of power crosses that may

31、88 I I leather heel I I l I I I. 4.4 CHEMICAL RESISTANCE 4.4.1 CARPET CLEANING AGENTS To ensure the ability of undercarpet cable to withstand the use of typical carpet cleaning chemicals, the following tests should be performed. If recommended installation requires the use of tape that completely co

32、vers and seals cable from chemicals, cable may be covered with tape before testing. If recommended installation require no taping or only partial taping, then tape must not be used in these tests. Cable samples are to be prepared in sufficient length to allow insulation resistance to be measured (7.

33、5 meters minimum). Samples must be measured while in solution, or within 30 minutes after removal from so lut ion. Cable samples are to be placed in a 5% solution of acetic acid and a 5% solution of sodium phosphate with a .Ol% non-ionic detergent. Cables should remain for 30 days. At the end of the

34、 period, the insulation resistance shall have not not changed by more than a factor of 10 over the initial measurement. This test shall be repeated with 5% ethyl acetate. 35、 EXPOSURE Undercarpet cable shall be subjected to the following test to ensure cable degeneration does not occur during steam cleaning of carpet. Cable sample should immersed in water at 82OC for 5 minutes. Insulation resistance shall be continuously monitored and shall not change by more than a fac

36、tor of 10. No mechanical change shall be observable. 4.4.3 CONCRETE EXPOSURE Cable shall be immersed for 72 hours in a solution of sodium hvdroxid with a pH of at least 12. Cable shall pass high voltage bieakdown requirement specified in “High Voltage Breakdown“ on page 6 after removal from bath. 4.

37、4.4 ABRASION RESISTANCE , Using a GE abrasion tester or equivalent, the cable shall withstand 500 cycles using a 4.44 Newton load on a .254 mm diameter needle. Cable is to be laid with the conductors parallel to the motion of the needle. ALTERNATE NETHOD : Sandwich a cable sample between two pieces

38、of medium grit (:150 to Q220) emery travel shall cloth and place on a reciprocating platform with a 76mm stroke, .ing at 35 cycles per minute maximum. The length of emery cloth be 135mm maximum. A 4.44 Newton load shall be applied to the cable through the cloth. Samples shall be checked and emery cl

39、oth cleaned every 100 cycles. The cable sample must withstand 500 cycles with no observable breakthrough to the foil.
