Insufficient or inappropriate packaging can lead to damage or wastage of the contents of the pack. According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organiza

EN 14887:2005 (E) 4 1 Scope This European Standard gives general requirements for the design of all types of cork removal devices. 2 Requirements 2.1 The cork removal device is envisaged for corks for wine bottles made of cork or synthetic material
18、. 2.2 No metallic part of the removal device shall contact the inside of the bottle. NOTE Such contact can scratch and weaken the internal glass surface, and this could cause the bottle neck to break as the cork is being extracted. 2.3 No metallic part of the removal device shall contact the externa
19、l surface of the bottle. NOTE Such contact can damage and weaken the external glass surface, and this could cause the bottle neck to break as the cork is being extracted. 2.4 Contact surfaces of the removal device shall be made of non-metallic, non-abrasive material such as wood or plastic. 2.5 The
20、removal device shall have a centring mechanism so that the corkscrew or insertion part of the device enters the centre of the cork vertically. 2.6 The removal device shall be able to fully extract the cork, without the user having to grip the neck of the bottle more tightly than is necessary to loca
21、te and steady the device. 2.7 Devices using a pumping action or carbon dioxide (CO2) cylinders shall carry a label warning that they should not be used to remove corks from wine bottles, which have a non-circular cross-section or from other types of non-standard wine bottles. NOTE Such bottles may n
22、ot be capable of withstanding the internal pressures generated by these devices. EN 14887:2005 (E) 5 Annex A (informative) Guidance on cork removal A.1 Cork removal devices should not be used to remove corks, which are wired on to the top of pressurized wine bottles, such as champagne bottles. Such
23、corks are intended to be removed by hand. A.2 If the glass of the bottle is damaged during use of a cork removal device, no further attempt should be made to remove the cork. A.3 Devices which use a pumping action or carbon dioxide (CO2) cylinders should not be used to remove corks from wine bottles
24、 which have a non-circular cross-section or from other types of non-standard wine bottles. A warning to this effect should be carried on the labels of such bottles.
