、stomeric panels of any convenient size, representative of production material. A smooth surface with no pits or blow holes is required. Solvent wipe panels clean before applying primer. 3.3.2 Primer Apply 0.0008 - 0.0012 in (21 - 30 m) of the primer specified for the substrate and bake per specifica

、tion requirements. 3.3.3 Color Coat Reduce enamel to spray viscosity of 12 - 13 s #4 Ford Cup using solvent recommended by the supplier. Apply 0.0018 in (46 m) min (dry film thickness) of elastomeric enamel and bake approximately 40 min at 121 C to achieve a surface temperature of 116 C for 25 min.

、3.4 APPEARANCE 3.4.1 Color (FLTM BI 109-01) Color and texture shall match the Ford Motor Company master panel after all the baking cycles described in para 3.3 and 3.6.9. 3.4.2 Gloss (FLTM BI 110-01, 60 Glossmeter) The gloss shall be specified by means of a letter suffix to the color number assigned

、 by Styling, as follows: A 92 min F 35 +/- 3 B 80 +/- 4 G 20 +/- 3 C 70 +/- 4 H 10 +/- 3 D 62 +/- 3 J 6 max E 50 +/- 3 3.4.3 General The enamel shall bake out to a presentable, serviceable film showing no craters, pinholes, seediness or abnormal roughness. It shall have good resistance to ordinary c

、leaning and polishing procedures. 12、r chipping. 3.5.3 Film Thickness, min 0.0018 in (46 m) (FLTM BI 117-01) Test Method: Place a metal coupon adjacent to the surface and process concurrently with the panel or part being painted. 3.5.4 Flexibility No cracking when bent over a 1 in (25 mm) mandrel at 23 +/- 2 C. 3.5.5 Hiding (FLTM BI 00

、1-04) Complete visual hiding over red and gray checkerboard at 0.0017 in (43 m) dry film thickness. 3.5.6 Bleeding No greater bleeding through the color coat than the approved master panel on file in the Body Materials Laboratory. 3.6 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES 3.6.1 Water Resistance, min 240 h (FLTM BI

、104-01) Test Method: Immerse the panels for 240 h in distilled or deionized water maintained at 32 +/- 1 C. Remove parts from the water and immediately scribe an X through the enamel to the substrate. Dry the scribed area with a paper towel, cloth or air pressure and immediately apply, with firm thu

、mb pressure, a min of 2 sq in (13 cm2) of ESF-M3G48 tape. Remove the tape by pulling one end at a 90 angle at a moderate speed. The following conditions shall be basis for rejection: . Removal of paint beyond 1/16 in (1.6 mm) from any scribe line. . Any evidence of blistering or dulling of the paint

、 at either the scribe or any other area of the panel. ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION ESB-M2J121-A Copyright 2012, Ford Global Technologies, LLC Page 4 of 5 3.6.2 Weathering Resistance Panels prepared in accordance with paragraph 3.3 shall show a min degree of fading, chalking or dulling. No crac

、king when bent over a 2 in (50 mm) mandrel on 0.25 in (6.4 mm) thick elastomeric substrate. No increase of brittleness nor loss of adhesion is permitted and panels shall be completely free from evidence of cracking, checking, blistering or peeling when exposed as follows: . Florida Exposure 12 month

、s at 5 (Miami Area) facing south . Accelerated Weathering 1600 h (FLTM BO 101-01) Atlas XW Weatherometer for initial paint qualification on typical approved production substrate. 3.6.3 Thermal Shock Resistance (FLTM BI 107-05) The enamel shall exhibit no blistering nor loss of adhesion when subjecte

、d to the following cycle. . 4 h water immersion . 4 h min exposure at -29 C . Direct steam blast on scribed X at 45 angle 2 - 3 in (50 - 75 mm) from panel for 15 s min. 3.6.4 Resistance to Water and Soap Spotting (FLTM BI 113-01, except use of colorimeter is omitted) The enamel shall exhibit no more

、 dulling or color change than the approved master sample on file in the Body Materials Laboratory. 3.6.5 Resistance to Acid Spotting (FLTM BI 113-02, except use of colorimeter is omitted) The enamel shall exhibit no more dulling or color change than the approved master sample on file in the Body Mat

、erials Laboratory. 3.6.6 Gasoline Resistance The enamel shall exhibit no softening, dulling, color transfer, color change, blistering, or show any evidence of loss of adhesion. Test Method: Place the painted panel in a 600 mL beaker half full of M14J148 Petroleum Naphtha - Aliphatic type, for 1 h at

、 21 C min. Wipe panel with a soft cloth and examine the cloth for evidence of color transfer and the paint film for evidence of degradation. ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION ESB-M2J121-A Copyright 2012, Ford Global Technologies, LLC Page 5 of 5 3.6.7 Oil Resistance The enamel shall exhibit no soft

、ening, dulling, color transfer, color change, blistering or show any evidence of loss of adhesion. Test Method: Place the painted panel in Rotunda Motor Oil (SAE 10W30). After 1 h at 21 C min, remove the panel and wipe the painted surface with a soft cloth and examine the cloth for evidence of color

、 transfer and the paint film for evidence of degradation. 3.6.8 Resistance to Scuffing (FLTM BN 108-04, 5000 cycles using scuff head “A“ under a 2 lb (0.9 kg) load) No cracks in the enamel transverse to the direction of motion, and no removal of the enamel is permitted. Note: Slight circular scratch

、es in the direction of motion are not considered evidence of failure. 3.6.9 Heat Resistance There shall be no evidence of cracking, checking, or color change after exposure in a mechanical convection oven for 30 min at 121 +/- 2 C. 3.6.10 Chip Resistance There shall be no chipping when a 1/4 in (6 m

、m) thick specimen is subjected to 10 cycles as described in SAE J400 (Test for chip resistance of surface coatings). Specimen must be supported on the back with a 0.035 in (0.9 mm) min thick steel panel. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance
