、-M4G73-A NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE: The material defined by this specification is a nondrying, synthetic polymer base, solvent release type sealer. 2. APPLICATION: This specification was released originally for material used as an adhesive sealer for adhering polyethylene water shields
、to inner door panels and rear quarter panel assemblies. 3. REQUIREMENTS: 3.1 COLOR Charcoal gray or neutral 3.2 SOLIDS, min 90% (ASTM D 2834,except heat at 102 +/- 3 C in a mechanical convection oven for 3 h) 3.3 VISCOSITY (FLTM BV 3-1, 40 psi (276 kPa) line pressure) 3.3.1 As Received 30 - 60 s 3.3
、.2 Aged, max 75 s 3.4 WEIGHT PER VOLUME 10.0 - 11.8 lb/gal (ASTM D 816) (1.20 - 1.41 kg/L) The weight tolerance for any one supplier shall be +/- 0.2 lb/gal (0.02 kg/L) based on the recorded weight of his originally approved production sample. 3.5 COLD FLEXIBILITY Shall not crack Test Method: Apply
、1/4 in (6.4 mm) extruded beads of the sealer to a thin sheet of aluminum foil or equivalent. Heat for 24 h at 102 +/- 3 C in a mechanical convection oven. Then, expose the sample in a cold box maintained at -29 C for 24 h. Bend 180 deg around a temperature conditioned 2 in (51 mm) mandrel. 3.6 PLAST
、ICIZER MIGRATION, max 1/16 in (1.6 mm) Shall remain soft and pliable after exposure to the following test: ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION ESB-M4G73-A WP-3948-b Page 2 of 3 Test Method: Place two 1/4 in (6.4 mm) extruded beads of the sealer over a disc of #40 Whatman filter paper or equivalent, a
、nd air dry at 23 +/- 2 C for 24 h. After drying, place the assembly in a mechanical convection oven maintained at 70 +/- 1 C for a period of 48 h. Remove from oven. Examine filter paper along edges of bead for plasticizer migration and examine bead for softness and pliability. 3.7 EASE OF CLEANING S
、hall be easily removed Test Method: Apply a 3/16 in (4.8 mm) bead of sealer to freshly enameled panels, and also to a safety glass panel. Allow to air dry at 23 +/- 2 C for 2 h. Remove excess sealer. Wipe panels with a rag wetted with MI-14J167 naphtha. This requirement is used in the laboratory as
、an index of the relative cleanability of the sealer only. A functional approval shall be based on the production trial. 3.8 VOLUME CONTRACTION, max 20% Test Method: (Water Displacement Method) Apply 3 - 5 g of material to a piece of 20 mesh nonferrous metallic screening approximately 1-1/4 x 1-1/2 i
、n (32 x 38 mm). Spread to a uniform thickness. The initial water displacement of the specimen shall be determined by weighing it in air to the nearest milligram (W3) and in distilled water at 23 +/- 2 C (W4), the difference being the weight of the water displaced by the specimen. The specimen shall
、then be suspended in a mechanical convection oven for 70 h at 70 +/- 1 C. It shall be removed from the oven, cooled to 23 +/- 2 C, weighed in air (W5) and in distilled water (W6) to determine the water displacement after test. It is important that all air bubbles clinging to the test specimen be rem
、oved during the weighing in distilled water. This is best done by dipping the specimen quickly in alcohol ESF-M8B12-A and again in distilled water. The percentage of contraction shall be calculated as follows: (W3-W1) - (W4-W2) - (W5-W1) + (W6-W2) - x 100 (W3-W1) - (W4-W2) Where: W1 - Weight of scre

The Manufacturing Engineering Department shall notify both the Plant Security and the Safety Units of its presence in the Plant to assure that proper fire precautions are provided. The location in which it is used or stored shall be included in the notification.
