2、ED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE This specification defines an electroplated copper finish. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for a coating used on hardened steel fasteners where lubrication and some corrosion resistance is needed. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PROD
3、UCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 THICKNESS 0.00015 - 0.00035 in (3.8 - 8.9 m) Test Method The thickness of plating shall be determined by a suitable acid dropping test, by magnetic
4、 methods such as “magne-gage“, by electronic deplating (Kocour test) or by metallographic methods. In case of dispute between a supplier and the Ford Motor Company, the umpire method shall be the metallographic method. 3.2 SALT SPRAY RESISTANCE 8 h, min (ASTM B 117) 3.3 VISUAL EXAMINATION Plated par
5、ts are subject to surface inspection for such imperfections as excessively rough plate, incompletely covered areas, etc. The testing of the quality of plate by salt spray and/or determination of coating thickness will be done on pieces passing this inspection. 3.4 HYDROGEN EMBRITTLEMENT After platin
6、g, the parts must be heated to 175 C and held at this temperature for 1 h min. This draw operation must be performed within 1 h after the plating operation. 3.5 METHOD The copper plating may be applied by any commercial process giving a plating satisfactory for the intended application. 3.6 QUALITY Satisfactory quality shall be indicated by satisfactory function of copper deposit in fulfilling purpose for which it was intended.
