5、21-01 Page 2 of 2 Copyright 2001, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. Procedure 1. Determination of melt index. (See ASTM D 1238, Condition E) 2. Determination of flow index. (a) The total mass of the piston and weight shall be 10,000 +/- 50 g. The other conditions are the same as for the melt index. (b)

6、 Start the timer and place a full charge into the cylinder (7 to 9 grams), and put the piston and 2060 g weight in place. (The 2060 g weight is used during the preheat period only.) (c) After 3 minutes, force out enough of the charge by hand pressure so that after an additional 2 minutes, the cylind

7、er will be about one-half full. (d) After the additional 2 minutes (total of 5 minutes elapsed time), replace the 2060 g weight with the 9900 g weight and cut off and discard the extruded portion of the specimen at the orifice. (e) Collect the extrudate for the next 30 seconds. (f) Follow the cleani

8、ng procedure outlined in the melt index determination. (g) Weigh the 30 second extrudate to the nearest milligram and calculate the flow index as the rate of extrusion in grams per 10 minutes. weight of extrudate in grams x 10 = flow index time of extrudation in minutes 3. Determination of flow ratio. flow index = flow ratio melt index Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly. Each party is responsible for determining proper use and handling in its facilities.
