、escribes the procedure for removing the coating from parking brake cables and the tensile elongation testing of the removed coating. Apparatus Required Wire Rope Cutters Heavy duty type of sufficient quality to cut wire rope. Single Edge Razor Blade or Box Cutter Bench Vise Locking Pliers #10 “Vise-

Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/

、- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. FORD LABORATORY TEST METHOD BO 132-01 Page 2 of 6 Copyright 2001, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. Procedure Method A - Stripping of Coating 1. Cut five 125 - 150 mm lengths

、 of coated cable. 2. Strip 35 - 40 mm of the cable coating from one end of the cut cable lengths. This can be done by rolling the cable while cutting through the coating with the razor blade. Making a longitudinal slice from the circumferential cut will allow the coating to be easily stripped away f

、rom the wire. 3. Place the stripped end of the cable in the stripping block and snug (i.e. tighten down) the set screws. 4. Place the stripping block in a bench vise and fan the outer layer of wire from the core wire. (See Figure 1 and 3.) Caution: The wire ends will be sharp. 5. Grasp the center co

、re wire with the locking pliers and pull the core wire out of the cable. After the core wire is removed, grasp two or three of the remaining outer wires with the locking pliers and remove them. The remaining wires can be easily removed leaving the cable coating intact. 6. Strip the coating from the

、. Apply the tensile load to the cable coating as shown in Figure 4 using a cross-head speed of 25 mm/minute. The cable coating should elongate the entire gage length. Record the load required to elongate the coating. Stop the tensile tester immediately when the “draw down“(i.e. uniform necking prior

、 to fracture) reaches the opposite jaw and measure the total separation between the jaws (L + L)*. 3. Remove the sample from the jaws and visually check for any jaw slippage. If any slippage has occurred, disregard the results from the sample. 4. Calculate and report the elongation of at least three

、 samples. Also report the load to elongate. * If the sample breaks before complete “draw down“, stop the tensile tester immediately and measure the total separation between the jaws (L + L). Report the elongation, the load to elongate and note that the sample broke before complete “draw down“. Chemi
