Two methods are described as follows: a) Determination of Break Point. b) Checking Break Point against Specification. Apparatus and Chemical Required Filter Papers 9 cm diameter Whatman No. 40 or

Solution A: 39 g calcium chloride (CaC1 2 .6H 2 0), A.R., dissolved with distille d water to 1 litre. 1 mL of this solution A diluted with distilled water and 1 litre results in water of a hardness of 0.179 mmol CaC1 2 .6H 2 0 per litre. So

6、lution B: 44 g magnesium sulphate (MgSO 4 .7H 2 0), A.R., dissolved with distilled water to 1 litre. 1 mL of this solution B diluted with distilled water to 1 litre results in water of a hardness of 0.179 mmol MgSO 4 .7H 2 0 per litre. 8、st Iron Chips The chips are to be inspected visually prior to use with regard to freedom of any corrosion and then be sieved. They never should be touched with a bare hand. b. Each mixture is to be tested twice; for each individual mixture (con centration) a freshly prepared dispersion is to be made. Conditioning and Test Conditi

10、ons The tests must be performed in a temperature controlled room at 20 +/ - 2 C free from corrosive fumes and direct sunlight. 11、 g of the cast iron sample. 2. Place a filter paper in the petri dish. Position the perspex guide centrally on the filter paper. Spread the cast iron chips evenly on the filter paper inside the guide ensuring that the full area is utilised. Lightly tap the side of the guide to ensure chips settle on

12、to the filter paper. 3. Using the pipette, transfer 2.0 mL of the emulsion onto the cast iron chips so that they are all thoroughly wetted. 4. Cover the petri dish with t he lid and leave for 120 +/ - 2 minutes. 5. Remove the filter paper from the dish and wash with demineralised water. Blot, then w

13、ash with the acetone and dry. 6. Evaluation - Immediately following the drying of the filter paper the degree of corrosion is determined using the transparent 35/35 grid (see table). The picture shown may be helpful in evaluating the degree of corrosion. Corrosion Grade Significance Characterization

Evaluation Corrosion Grade 1 or less is considered acceptable and this result must be identified as the Corrosion Break Point at a specific concentration. Chemicals, materials, parts,
