SCOPE This specification defines the performance requirements for a 500 C heat resistant paint finish. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released or
3、iginally to define the performance requirements for paints used on exhaust system, manifold and exhaust mounted emission components, heat deflectors, insulators and baffle plates. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to
4、 the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.3 SYSTEM COMPONENTS 3.3.1 Substrate As specified on the Engineering Drawing. 3.3.2 Cleaning The surface to be coated must be free from oil or alkaline residues, finger prints, rust, dirt, moisture, and other foreign mat
5、erials. 3.3.3 Coating Material 3.3.3.1 Pretreatment A preliminary shot blasting or pickling operation may be required on castings, forgings, scaled steel. 6、 Coating System The quality required is that obtainable with best commercial practice to meet the performance requirements of this specification. Only Ford Engineering approved air dry or stoved finishes are permitted. Any suitable method of coating application may be used. Coating must be sufficien
7、t to meet all performance requirements of this specification. Durability is obtained by a) Quality of materials used b) Variation in film thickness 3.4 FILM PROPERTIES 3.4.1 Color (FLTM BI 109-01) Black or as specified on the Engineering Drawing. Colored finishes shall match the Master Appearance Sa
8、mple color panel. 3.4.2 Gloss (FLTM BI 110-01) As specified on the Engineering Drawing. 3.4.3 Initial Hardness The finish shall be sufficiently cured at the time of packing to withstand normal handling and shipping without damage. 3.4.4 Appearance The coating surface shall be uniform, smooth, and ab
9、sence of dirt, pits, and scratches. 3.4.5 Film Thickness, min 25 m (FLTM BI 117-01)3.5 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES 3.5.1 Paint Adhesion Grade 0 (FLTM BI 106-01, Method B) No flaking or chipping 3.5.2 Water Resistance, min 96 h (FLTM BI 104-01) No rusting, softening, dulling, and/or loss of adhesion. Page 3 of 3 3.5.3 Salt Spray Resistance, min 24 h (FLTM BI 103-01, no scribe) 3.5.3.1 Stamped Steel, Parts and Panels Parts or panels shall have no blistering or rust spots in any
11、 area and no corrosion creepage or loss of adhesion more than 3 mm from scratches, sharp edges or round holes. 3.5.3.2 Cast Parts, Assemblies and Accessories These shall be equal to or better than parts shown on Standard Photographs. Copies of these photographs may be obtained from the affected Comp
12、onent Engineering Activity. 3.5.4 Fuel Resistance (FLTM BI 152-01) Current initial fill gasoline. National Standard Premium Grade and Current initial fill Diesel fuel. National Standard Grade No blistering. Slight softening or dulling of coating is permitted. 3.5.5 Heat Resistance Place in oven at 2
13、05 C. Raise temperature evenly within 1 h to 550 +/- 3 C. Maintain for 1 h. Remove and cool to 23 +/- 2 C. There shall be no chipping, flaking, cracking, and no significant blistering or discoloration. 3.5.6 Heat/Corrosion Resistance Place in an oven at 205 C. Raise temperature evenly within 1 h to
14、500 +/- 3 C and maintain for 6 h. Remove and allow to cool to 23 +/- 2 C over 16 h. Repeat for three cycles and subject to salt spray resistance as in item 3.5.3. There shall be no rust, blistering or flaking. Defects within 3 mm of sharp edges or holes shall not be considered failure. 3.6 FINISHED
15、PARTS When it is not feasible to test actual parts because of size, laboratory panels may be substituted. Test panels shall be Ford Engineering approved standard cast iron and smooth steel. They shall be representative of production with respect to substrate, coating, thickness, and all other operations. For Salt Spray Tests they shall be scribed to bare metal. Rust creepage on scribed panels, 3 mm max.
