SCOPE AND CLASSIFICATION
2、 1.1 Scope. This specification covers inspection mirrors of the type generally used for visual examination in positions and places where it would otherwise be difficult or impossible to see. 1.2 Classification. The inspection mirrors shall be of the following types, classes, and styles, as specified

12、for Testing Materials, 1916 Race Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.) 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Materials. The material used in the manufacture of inspection mirrors shall be steel. 3.2 Components. The inspection mirrors shall consist of a mirror, handle, 3.3 Coating. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.11, all

14、all be. as specified in QQ-N-ZYE:, class 1, grade G, as applicable. 3.3.3 Zinc plating. Zinc plating shall be as specified in ASTM B 633, Type II, Service Condition 2 (moderate). 3.4 Mirror reflecting surface. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.1), the reflecting surface of the mirror shall be glass.
15、 The mirror shall reflect an image that is free from distortion or blind spots. The glas shall be protected by a stainless steel back. When specified (see 6.11, the reflecting surface shall be one of the following, at the manufacturers option. (a) 304 or 430 corrosion resistant stainless steel, poli
16、shed on both sides (b) Brass, or cold rolled steel. These materials shall be chromium plated a minimum of 0.000045 .inch over a minimum of 0.0082 inch nickel on both sides. (c) Cold rolled steel, chromium plated a minimum of 8.000005 inch over a minimum of 0.0002 inch nickel one side, and nickel pla
17、ted a minimum of 0.0002 inch other side. The mirror reflecting surfaces must have a 7 micro-inch finish or better and polished. 3.4.1 For the type I, class 1 mirror, a chipboard or paperboard shim shall be placed between the back and the mirror. The metal edqes of the back shall be rolled or coined
18、to prevent the mirror from falling out or separatinq from backing. 3.4.1.1 For the type I, class 2 mirror, the metal back shall be punched out with one tab on each side of the mirror and two tabs on back. Paperboard or chipboard shim and mirror are placed in the metal frame back. The two tabs shall
19、be folded to hold mirror in place. The reflective coating of the glass mirrors shall be so deposited as to preclude any defects or blemishes in the reflecting surface such as, lifting or separation of the sil
21、ver from the glass. The reflecting surface shall be free from spots or haze resulting from incomplete removal of chemicals used in preparing the silvered surface of the glass, or any other visible defects in or on the silver. 3.5.2 Silvering. 3.5.3 Chromium plated mirrors. When a chromium plated bra

The marking shall be etched,
24、 engraved, stamped, in a legible manner so that the source may be readily identified throughout the life of the item. 3.5.4 Corrosion-resistant steel mirrors. 29、able lensth handle consisting of an inner solid rod and outer tube, hex on one-end. The handle parts shall be designed to allow free movement with a minimum clearance between sections to preclude the possibility of these parts becoming loose under service conditions. round end of the outer tube shal
30、l be rolled over to prevent separation. The handle shall be provided with a stop clip to prevent the inner and outer handles from becoming disengaged when the handle is fully extended. Non-rotating inner hex rods shall prevent mirrors from swinging out of alignment when in use. In the assembling of
31、the handle, the 3.8 Type II, plunger actuated. The handle of type II inspection mirrors f utilize mechanical linkage connected to the mirror frame whereby the mirror may be , shall contain a spring loaded, plunger actuated, mirror angle adjustment capable of set at, and locked into, any angle from 9
32、0 degrees through 180 degrees (a plane parallel to the handle) inclusive, to the longitudinal axis of the handle and have the capacity of returning to the 180 degrees position upon release of the locking device. Type II inspection mirrors shall be of the class and size specified, and shall conform t
33、o the applicable requirements of table IV. The frame ends shall be crimped to insure and retain the reflecting mirror. The mirror shall not slip or fall out of the frame. Components of actuating parts that are permanently attached shall withstand longitudinal force as specified in 4.3.4. * one-hand

36、d in the applicable table and paragraphs. The inspection level shall be I with an AQL of 4.0 percent defective. 4.2.2 Testing. Random samples shall be tested in accordance with paragraph 43, as applicable. The inspection level shall be S-3 with an AQL of 2.5 percent defective. 4.2.3 Examination for
37、preparation for delivery. An examination shall be made to determine compliance with the requirements of section 5 and the contract, The sample unit shall be one container fully prepared for delivery. Defects shall be scored in accordance with Table VI. The inspection level. shall be 5-3 with an AQL

40、 selected in accordance with 4.2 shall be examined to determine that the requirements of this specification have been met (see 3-4). 4.3.2 Mirror adjustment joint tightness test. Type I inspection mirrors shall be tested with the mirror set at 90, 105, 120, 135, 150, and 165 degrees to the longitudi
41、nal axis of the handle (see figure 1). The mirror adjustment mechanism shall be capable of holding the mirror in these preset positions while the handle is rotated manually about its longitudinal axis at least 360 degrees. These tests shall be accomplished once with the longitudinal axis of the hand
42、le maintained in a horizontal plane and once maintained in a vertical plane (with the mirror positioned above the handle). The mirror shall not separate from the handle when adjusted and shall withstand a pull-apart force of 20 pounds for type I, class I, style A, and 50 pounds for type I, class 1,

The handle of style B inspection mirrors shall be fully extended and the mirror set at 90 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the handle. The outer handle shall be rotated as specifie
44、d in 4.3.2, without evidence of the one or more inner handle sections slipping or sliding in the other sections. 4.3.4 Type II actuating components. Permanently installed components of actuating parts of type II mirror assemblies shall withstand longtudinal forces of not less than five pounds applie
45、d between attachment parts without failure of permanently installed connection. 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Preservation, packaging, packing and marking. Preservation, packaging, packing, and marking shall be in accordance with PPP-P-40. The level of preservation, packaging, and packing shall be
