、 PRINTED COPIES OF THIS DOCUMENT MUST BE VERIFIED FOR CURRENT REVISION Change Notice: Added allowable finish of Zinc Trivalent plus Sealer (ZN8F). International Truck and Engine Corporation replaced by Navistar, Inc. per corporate directive. APPLICATION GUIDE: For general application where a prevail
、ing torque nut is desirable the “all metal“ type in ESP-E-56.101-GS should be given first consideration primarily because of lower cost, absence of temperature limitations and advantages of one piece construction. The non-metallic type should be restricted to use where machined threads are involved
、and then confined to the light, regular series, coarse thread, if at all possible. Non-metallic insert nuts are not to be used in conjunction with externally threaded components having drilled holes, milled slots, or keyways which the insert must pass over during assembly. GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS GEN
、ERAL: A prevailing torque nut is one which is frictionally resistant to rotation due to a self-contained prevailing torque feature, and not because of a compressive load developed against the bearing surface of the nut or special under head design. “Locknut“ is a generic term used to identify the in
、ternally threaded products covered in this standard and is not intended to imply an indefinite permanency of fixity. MISCELLANEOUS DIMENSIONS: Tops of hex will be chamfered from the boss diameter. Diameter of the bearing circle being the maximum width across flats within a tolerance of minus 5 perce
、nt. The length of chamfer at hex corners will be from 5 to 15 percent. The surface of chamfer may be slightly convex or rounded. A rounding or lack of fill at junction of hex corners with chamfer will be permissible provided the minimum width across corners is reached and maintained beyond a distanc
、e equal to 17.5 percent of the basic thread diameter from the chamfered face. Bearing surface of nuts will be flat with chamfered corners, and will be at right angles to the axis of the threaded hole within 1 for 1 inch size or smaller and within 1 /2 for larger sizes. (The maximum total runout of b
、earing face equals the tangent of the specified angle times the width across flats.) Actual size across flats will be not less than specified minimum limit between two planes, perpendicular to the axis of the nut, spaced at a distance equal to .25 times hex thickness above and below the mid-plane th

、f 6 The threaded hole will be a true position within a tolerance zone having a radius equal to .03 times the maximum width across flats, regardless of feature size, and will be countersunk on the bearing face. The maximum countersunk diameter will be the thread basic diameter plus .025 inch of 1/6 o
、f thread basic diameter, whichever is smaller for 3 inch size or smaller; and plus .06 times the basic thread diameter for larger sizes. The minimum countersink diameter and depth will be such that no part of the threaded portion projects beyond the bearing face. THREADS: Unified Series, Class 2B (C

The ID of the insert will be no smaller than the basic root diameter of the mating male thread. After assembly with mating thread the insert will
、not experience any splitting, tearing, rotation, or separation from the nut. IDENTIFICATION: Special heat treated nuts shown in ESP-E-47.221-NPP (note 2) are identified with notched hex corners. FINISH: As designated by part number, nuts will be furnished plain, plated, or coated in accordance with
