5、ng applied to aluminum or aluminum alloys for purposes of appearance, corrosion resistance, electrical (insulating) properties, or abrasion resistance. The coating may be color dyed for identification or decoration. 2.0 INTRODUCTION The method used for applying this finish generally consists of an e

6、lectrolytic treatment of the aluminum in an acid bath. Coatings for decorative purposes may be dyed. All coatings, except those specifically used for abrasion resistance, must be hot water sealed. Details of processing are not limited by this specification. Three classes of anodic coatings are descr

7、ibed in this specification: Class A - Decorative exterior Class B Decorative interior Class C Hard coat for abrasion resistance 2.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the MPAPS

14、ating. Depending upon the alloy, thicknesses are available up to 0.008 inch (0.2 mm). When special thicknesses are required, they will be specified on the drawing. Specific requirements for abrasion resistance shall be specified on drawing or purchase order. * After the specified hours of test, ther

15、e will be no corrosion spots visible to the unaided eye on significant surfaces. Significant surfaces are defined as those which are visible, subject to wear or corrosion, or surfaces on which the coating is otherwise functionally necessary. Surfaces considered significant for a given part may be in

16、dicated on the part drawing. Test methods are described in Section 8.0. Other requirements for test duration may be specified on the part drawing or purchase order. JUNE 2014 Page 3 of 7 6.1 Material The type of aluminum to be anodized will be designated on the part drawing, referencing applicable NAVISTAR materi

18、als specifications (see MPAPS C-10 for wrought aluminum and MPAPS C-8 for aluminum castings). 6.2 Pretreatment Anodic coatings reproduce the texture of the surface from which they are formed. Therefore, limitations to surface defects (such as scratches, porosity, cracks, etc.) which might adversely

19、affect the final appearance of the part, along with the desired surface pretreatment, should be specified on the part drawing and/or purchase order. 6.2.1 Pretreatments are either mechanical or chemical in nature. Used alone or in combination, they provide a wide variety of glosses and textures to t

20、he aluminum surface. Selected finishes suitable for routine use are listed in Table II. Numerous other surface effects can be achieved by other chemical and mechanical treatments of the surface texture. Consultation with Materials Engineers and/or suppliers can provide information on other surface e

21、ffects that may be available for use. 24、dic coating will be continuous, smooth, adherent, uniform in appearance, and will be free from powdery areas, stains, discontinuities such as breaks and scratches, or other damage. JUNE 2014 Page 4 of 7 8.0 METHODS OF TEST 8.1 Sample Requirements Final approval and the establishment of standards for color, textur

26、e, thickness, etc., must be done on the first pieces from a production lot. From subsequent shipments select for test one or more samples at random. The number of samples to be selected from each lot will be specified by the purchaser. If results fall below the test requirements or fail to meet appe

27、arance standards, the shipment may be rejected. 8.2 Test Methods 8.2.1 Thickness The coating thickness may be determined by the eddy current method according to ASTM B 244. In the event of conflicts regarding coating thickness, the microscopic test method, ASTM B 487, is the referee test method. Oth

28、er test methods may be used upon agreement between supplier and purchaser. 8.2.2. Weight The coating weight will be determined according to ASTM B 137. 8.2.3 Seal Quality Test for seal quality according to ASTM B 136, as required. The acid dissolution test (ADT) per ASTM B 680 may be used as an alte

29、rnate test method; samples tested using this method will pass seal quality if maximum ADT rating is 6.0. 8.2.4 CASS Test The copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray (CASS) test will be conducted according to ASTM B 368. 8.2.5 Color Stability Class A (exterior) color-dyed parts will be tested for t

30、he required number of hours according to Methods C or D per MPAPS GT-31. For Class B (interior) color-dyed parts, testing will be performed for the required number of hours in accordance with Methods E or F per MPAPS GT-31. Other similar test methods may be performed upon prior agreement between pur

31、chaser and supplier, or as specified on the engineering drawing or purchase order. There will be no appreciable change in color after the required testing when compared with an untested color-dyed sample (or approved standard). 8.2.6 Color Leaching There will be no leaching of color when the dyed an

32、odized part is immersed in 50 percent by volume nitric acid at room temperature for 2 minutes. 8.2.7 Heat The anodized coating on the part will not craze or crack when heated in an oven to 220 F (105 C) for 30 minutes. 8.2.8 Abrasion Resistance Conduct test in accordance with ASTM D 4060. 9.0 SOURCE

33、 APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 9.1 Supplier Requirements All suppliers to NAVISTAR are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. NAVISTAR will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documenta

34、tion and approval requirements. JUNE 2014 Page 5 of 7 maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to their International Corporate Buyer upon request. 9.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this spec

36、ification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the prod

37、uct are required, the supplier shall notify Materials Engineering and Purchasing and Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accord

38、ance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 9.3 Process Control The supplier shall either perform and report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produce

39、d in a state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the quality control manager of the using NAVISTAR plant may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products. 9.4 Approval of Suppliers Artwork (Where Applicabl

40、e) The supplier will have his finished artwork approved by the appropriate engineering department. For Truck applications, the artwork will be approved by the Industrial Design group, 2601 Navistar Dr., Lisle, IL 60532. 10.0 DESIGNATION ON DRAWINGS AND PURCHASE ORDERS Drawings and purchase orders fo

41、r anodized aluminum parts will specify the material, the class of coating and the pretreatment. Tolerances shown on drawings will be the final dimensions after anodizing. Examples: Aluminum Alloy 5657-H25, MPAPS C-10; Anodized Coating, Class A-M22, MPAPS G-21 Aluminum Alloy 3003-0, MPAPS C-10; Anodi

42、zed Coating, Green Dyed, Class B-M21C31, MPAPS G-21 Aluminum Alloy 5052-H32, MPAPS C-10; Anodized Coating, Class C, except thickness to be 0.0015 + 0.0005 inch (38 + 13m), MPAPS G-21 11.0 PACKING AND SHIPPING Decorative parts shall be packed so as to avoid damage in shipping and handling. 46、num anodizing is an electrochemical method which produces a thicker protective oxide coating than that normally produced by the atmosphere. This thicker coating, which is very hard and porous, enhances abrasion and corrosion resistance. The porous cellular structure permits dyeing. A.1.1 Appearance

47、Apparent color or shade of an anodic coating is affected by luster or opacity. Maximum luster or brightness is obtained on high purity aluminum. Aluminum alloys such as 5457 containing magnesium as the principal alloying element respond well to anodizing and the alloying constituents do not tint the

48、 coatings. Alloys containing silicon may give the coating a gray or brown tint. Manganese and chromium may give brown and yellow tints, respectively. A.1.2 Surface pretreatment Anodic coatings reproduce the texture of the surface from which they are formed, because anodizing is a surface conversion process. Therefore, surface pretreatment is necessary to obtain the desired appearance. Polis
