4、parts made of stainless steel, brass, chromium or nickel-plated metals, chromium plated plastics and anodized aluminum. 2.0 SCOPE This specification covers the general and performance requirements of paint on ornamental parts. 3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Unless otherwise specified, the latest issue of a

6、ral Requirements 4.1.1 The finished part shall conform to the color and pattern of master samples in the Industrial Design Department, Truck Development and Technology Center and the appropriate Plant Quality Control Department. 4.1.2 Parts to be painted shall be clean, dry and free of dirt, rust, o
7、xides, lubricants, etc. 4.1.3 The preferred method on plated and anodized parts is to paint within eight hours after coating. Parts held longer than eight hours or soiled shall be carefully cleaned and etched before painting. 4.2 Performance Requirements 4.2.1 Initial Adhesion 4.2.1.1 Method Crossha
8、tch a minimum area of 320 sq mm (0.5 sq in) into 1.6 mm (1/16 in) squares by cutting with a new razor blade or other sharp instrument. Press 3M #710 cellophane tape onto the crosshatched area and then remove with a sharp upward motion in a direction 90 degrees to the painted surface. 4.2.1.2 Require

13、cracking, loss of adhesion, yellowing or other discolorations. 4.2.5 Solvent Resistance (Exterior Applications Only) 4.2.5.1 Method CEMS GT-14A. 4.2.5.2 Required No loss of gloss, softening or removal. 4.2.6 Water Resistance 4.2.6.1 Method Immerse part for 24 hours at 38 1C (100 2F) in distilled or
14、deionized water. Remove, scribe an “X“, dry and apply 3M #710 tape to scribed area. Then remove tape at moderate speed at a 90 angle to the painted surface. 4.2.6.2 Required No paint removal beyond 1.6 mm (1/16 in) from any scribed line and no evidence of blistering. 4.2.7 Temperature Cycling Test 4
15、.2.7.1 Method Expose coated part for two hours at applicable temperature as prescribed below, then return to room temperature. Then expose the part to -30C (-22F) for two hours and again return to room temperature. Repeat this cycle ten times for exterior parts or five times for interior parts. 4.2.

19、free from dirt, oils, sharp edges, or defects harmful to product performance. 6.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 6.1 Supplier Requirements Suppliers must be registered to QS-9000 Quality System Requirements. A mutually acceptable Quality Control Plan as described therein is required for source
20、approval to the requirements of this specification. Alternatively, International will accept ISO 9000 or TS-16949 registration, providing the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP documentation and approval requirements 6.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this s
21、pecification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the p
22、roduct are required, the supplier shall notify Truck Development and Technology Center and International Purchasing and Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Saf
23、ety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 6.3 Process Control The supplier shall either perform and report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the plant metallurgist and/or the quality control manager of the using International plant may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products.
