REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Qualification. - The wind direction and wind speed indication equipment furnished under this spec- ification shall be a product which has been tested and passed qualification tests specified herein, and has been listed on or approved for listin
12、g OR the ap- plicable qualified products list. 3.2 Description.- The wind direction and wind speed indicating equipment shall be designed to give continuous and instantaneous visual indications of wind direction in degrees relative to the ships bow and relative wind speed in knots. The equipment sha
13、ll consist of the following: (a) Wind direction and speed detector. (b) Wind direction and speed transmitter. (c) Wind direction and speed indicator or (d) Crosswind and headwind computer. (e) Crosswind and headwind indicator. speed recorder (when specified (see 6.1) . ) 3.3 General features. - 3.3.
14、1 The wind direction and wind speed indicat- ing equipment shall be in accordance with the follow- ing paragraphs of MIL-1-983, in addition to the re- quirements specified herein. Whenever a requirement of MIL-1-983 conflicts with a require- ment of this specification, the requirement of this specif

24、d in MIL-STD- 242, 3.3.1.2 Manuals. - Manuals shall be in accord- ance with type I of MIL-M-15071. Deviations from previously approved existing manuals, except for the approval procurement and record page, shall not -I MIL- W- 15805 F( SHIPS) be made without specific authorization by the Bureau of S
25、hips. 3.3.2 Accuracy and response. - 3.3.2.1 The equipment shall be designed so that the error of the wind speed indicator readings shall not exceed the following values: (a) 3 to 45 knots plus or minus i-i/2 knots. (b) 45 to 60 knots plus or minus 2 knots. (c) 60 to 80 knots plus or minus 2-1/2 kno
26、ts. (d) 80 to 100 knots plus or minus 3 knots. (e) Maximum starting wind speed - 3 knots. (f ) Maximum stopping wind speed - 2 knots. 3.3.2.2 The time response of the wind speed transmitter shall be within the limits shown on figure 1. 3.3.2.3 The equipment shall be designed so that the error of the
27、 wind direction indicator readings shall not exceed the following values: (a) 1 to 3 knots minus 5 degrees. (b) 3 to 8 knots minus 4 degrees. (c) 8 to 100 knots plus or minus 2 degrees. 3.3.2.4 The response of the wind direction indi- cation shall be, for any change in wind direction, at the rate of
28、 6-1/2 degrees f 1-1/2 degree per second. 3.3.3 Continuous operation. - 3.3.3.1 All wind speed components shall be capable of continuous operation at full scale read- ing- 3. S. 3.2 All wind direction components shall be capable of continuous rotation at a speed of 5 revolu- tions per minute (r.p.m.
29、). 3.4 Detail requirements. - 3.4.1 Wind direction and speed detector. - The detector shali be manufactured in accordance with Drawing 3331238. The detector shall provide a means for generating and transmitting electrical signals, indicative of wind direction and wind speed, to the associated transm
30、itter. The detector shall consist of a streamlined vane and a three-blade im- peller mounted on a vane support (see figure 2). Any movement of the vane and impeller blades shall be transmitted mechanically to size 1 HG synchro generator in accordance with MIL-S-2335, housed in the vane or vane suppo
31、rt. The design shall be such that 100 knots of wind speed shall equal 190 r. p.m. of the speed synchro generator. 32、el-copper alloy. The exposed nickel-copper alloy shall not be painted, but shall be finished by a sandblast usingsilica powder- 325 mesh with an air line pressure of approximately 80 pounds per square inch (p. s. i. ) and a nozzle size of 1/2- to 3/4-inch diameter. The impeller blades shall be of mo
33、lded plastic of type CFG of MIL-M-14. The impeller shall contain a nickel-copper alloy nose cap with captive screw. A connector assembly arrangement containing a Pyle National connector, types AP-810 and AR-810, or equal shall be provided to permit removal of the detector mechanism without removing
34、the base from the mounting pintel or dis- turbing the ships wiring cable. A raincap shall be provided to protect the connector when the detector mechanism is r -?moved. The connector housing shall contain a 3/4-inch National Pipe thread, class 2 in accordance with Handbook H-28, pipe-plug for option
35、al cable connector. The design of the detector shall be such as to permit easy disassembling for oiling, cleaning, inspection, or replacement. 3.4.1.1 Mounting.- The detector shall be de- signed for mounting on the end of a l-inch diameter vertical pintel. The mounting arrangement shall provide a cl
36、amping fit and one 5/16-inch through bolt (see figure 2). 3,4.1.2 Balance. - The wind vane shall be stati- cally balanced to within 5 ounce-inches of true static balance. The impeller shall be statically balanced to within 10 gram-inches. mounted in the normal manner, the rotor shaft shall start to
37、turn at a torque of O. 056 inch-ounce . 3.4.1.4 Direction vane torque. - With the detec- tor mounted in the normal manner with its support horizontal, the vane shall start to rotate at a torque of 4. O inch-ounces. 3.4.1.3 Rotor starting torque. - With the detector 3.4.1.5 Size. - The complete detec
38、tor assembly shall weigh not more than 21 pounds, and shall not exceed the dimensions shown on figure 2. be subjected to the shock requirements as outlined in N1uI-1-983. 3.4.1.6 Shock. - The detector assembly will not 3.4.1.7 Bearings. - Ail bearings, including those used in the synchros, shall be
39、“sealed-for-life“ type, FF-B- 171, annular ball bearings. 3.4.1.8 Electrical contact , alloy. - The com- position of the stationary electrical contacts shall be a fine silver graphite alloy, 97 percent silver, 3 percent graphite. The material of the rotating contact shall be a silver alloy, 90 perce
40、nt silver, 10 percent copper. Contact pressure shall be 20 f 2 grams when tested with a spring scale pull. Mercury shall not be used in the fabrication of electrical contact parts, terminals, or terminal lugs. 3.4.2 Wind direction and speed transmitter. - The wind transmitter shall be manufactured i
41、n ac- cordance with Drawing 3331239. The wind direc- tion and speed transmitter shall contain, in a dripproof enclosure designed for bulkhead mounting, the mechanisms necessary to convert the input from the wind direction and speed detector to relative wind direction in degrees and relative wind spe
42、ed in knots, and to transmit this intelligence to wind di- rection and speed indications. The transmitter shall be designed so that it shall be possible to remove and repair either the wind direction or wind speed assembly of the mechanism without disturbing the operation of the other assembly. The
43、speed unit shall be a roller disc type integrator which measures the rotary motion of a receiving type 1F synchro, in accordance with MIL-S-2335, and displaces a transmitting type 5G synchro, in accordance with MIL-S-2335, at a rate (see figure 1) angularly pro- portional to rotor speed of the detec
44、tor, that is, wind speed. The discs shall be powered by a synchronous motor, Holtzer-Cabot model RBC 2505, or equal, which shall receive its power from the ships service 120-v01t, 60-cyc1ey a.c. supply. A low-limit cut-out switch shall be provided for breaking the circuit to the constant speed synch
45、ro- nous motor when the roller is at the center of the disc, less than 1/2-knot speed. The direction unit shall contain a static type amplifier employing either magnetic amplifier or solid state techniques which receives angular displacements of the vane of the detector. These angular displacements
46、shall be retransmitted to the indicator by a type 5G synchro, in accordance with MIL-S-2335, at a reduced rate of 6-1/2 f 1.5 degrees per second. As re- transmitted angular displacements are approximately constant and are not at the same rate as the angular displacements of the vane, damped indicati
47、ons are provided. Means shall be incorporated in the wind direction assembly for adjusting the electrical posi- tion of the aloft detector with respect to the fore and aft axis of the ship. The units shall be bolted in the case, and terminal boards shall be provided in the case for incoming wires. T
48、wo holes fitted with 1- inch National pipe thread class 2 in accordance with Handbook H-28 pipe plugs shali be provided for at- taching stuffing tube fittings. Electrical connections shall be made to each unit by plug-jack type term- inals, Winchester types Al8P and A18S, or equal. Power supply tole
