3、f the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) project, management identified and documented significant project lessons learned. Although this process was successful in identifying important lessons, collecting and organizing the material was arduous at this late date. Management could not assure that all candid
4、ate lessons were identified because project staff members were in job transition, and staff recollection over the entire project history had faded.In contrast, the Mars Pathfinder (MPF) project used a different approach. Throughout the project an ongoing list of potential lessons learned was maintai
5、ned. During the quiescent MPF cruise period, project management made time to review the list and related documentation. They prepared a comprehensive summary of the lessons learned issues, emphasizing the importance of innovative management techniques, concurrent engineering/teaming practices, and s
6、pacecraft architectures to this low cost, rapid development flight project.
