2、cility pointed to the need for a process to duplicate and secure unique electronic data at an off-site facility to provide disaster recovery protection.Description of Driving Event: The Columbia Accident Investigation Board (CAIB) generated unique and irreplaceable documents, data, and media that we

3、re housed at the Regent Park III facility. On Sunday, 30 March 2003, a small appliance fire occurred at the facility. The local fire department responded to the call and promptly secured the area. This event alerted the staff of the importance of protecting unique and irreplaceable documents, data,

4、and media.Lesson(s) Learned: 1. At the beginning of the investigation, unique electronic data such as interview and public hearing tapes were not duplicated and stored off-site. Mid-way through the investigation, document management staff began duplicating this media and delivering it to a secure of

5、f-site storage facility. This process provided disaster recovery protection that had not previously existed.2. 3. A backup of data stored by the investigators on JSC and personal computers was left to the individuals to perform on diskettes and CDs. These backups, if performed at all, were typically

6、 stored on-site in close proximity to user desktops.
