2、stract: The role of the mass properties manager was not fully defined among the project team members.Description of Driving Event: During the Ares 1-X Flight Test Vehicle Project the mass properties function was viewed as a reporting activity after the design activity occurred rather than reviewed a

3、s an integral part of the design process.Lesson(s) Learned: The mass properties manager should be included in the design process starting at conception and continuing through testing. Also, the mass properties should be managed by the Systems Engineering organization. In the beginning we did not hav

4、e a clear understanding of the best fit for this function. For this project, the mass properties were initially managed as a part of the Structural Mechanics function, and then later an attempt was made to manage this activity under the Test and Verification function. Finally, mass properties were m
