6、erty values for material outside specification ranges (3.5.1.2.1.4 and 8.6), revises tensile properties to match AMS4965 in Table 2, the addition of AS6297 (3.8) and revises the report paragraph (4.4).1. SCOPE1.1 FormThis specification covers a titanium alloy in the form of bars, wire, forgings, fla

7、sh welded rings up through 4.000 inches (101.60 mm) in diameter or least distance between parallel sides and stock of any size for forging, heading, or flash welded rings (See 8.6).1.2 ApplicationThese products have been used typically for parts to be rough machined prior to solution and precipitati

8、on heat treatment and for parts, such as pressure vessels and other aerospace structures, requiring high strength-to-weight ratios at or near room temperature, but usage is not limited to such applications.1.2.1 Certain processing procedures and service conditions may cause these products to become

9、subject to stress-corrosion cracking; ARP982 recommends practices to minimize such conditions.2. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Composi

16、tion Shall conform to the percentages by weight shown in Table 1; carbon shall be determined in accordance with ASTM E 1941, hydrogen in accordance with ASTM E 1447, oxygen and nitrogen in accordance with ASTM E 1409, and other elements in accordance with ASTM E 539 or ASTM E 2371. Other analytical

19、y shall be multiple melted. The first melt shall be made by vacuum consumable electrode, nonconsumable electrode, electron beam cold hearth, or plasma arc cold hearth melting practice. The subsequent melt or melts shall be made under vacuum using vacuum arc remelting (VAR) practice. Alloy additions

20、are not permitted in the final melt cycle.3.2.1 The atmosphere for nonconsumable electrode melting shall be vacuum or shall be argon and/or helium at an absolute pressure not higher than 1000 mm of mercury.3.2.2 The electrode tip for nonconsumable electrode melting shall be water-cooled copper.3.3 C

21、ondition The product shall be supplied in the following condition:3.3.1 BarsHot finished with or without subsequent cold reduction, annealed, and descaled. Unless prohibited by purchaser, bars may be solution heat treated below the beta transus prior to annealing. The product shall be processed to t

22、he final thickness/diameter by metallurgical working operations prior to any straightening, dimensional sizing or surface finishing operations. Bar shall not cut from plate.3.3.2 WireCold drawn, annealed, and descaled.3.3.3 Forgings and Flash Welded RingsAnnealed and rough machined or descaled. 3.3.

23、3.1 Flash welded rings shall not be supplied unless specified or permitted on purchasers part drawing. When supplied, rings shall be manufactured in accordance with AMS7498.3.3.4 Stock for Forging, Flash Welded Rings, or HeadingAs ordered by the forging, flash welded ring, or heading manufacturer.3.

24、4 AnnealingBars, wire, forgings, and rings shall be annealed by heating to a temperature within the range 1300 to 1450 F (704 to 788 C), holding at the selected temperature within 25 F (14 C) for not less than 1 hour, and cooling at a rate that will produce product meeting the requirements of 3.5. P

25、yrometry shall be in accordance with AMS2750.3.5 PropertiesThe product shall conform to the following requirements:SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS4967L Page 4 of 93.5.1 Bars, Wire, Forgings, and Flash Welded Rings3.5.1.1 As Annealed3.5.1.1.1 MicrostructureShall be that structure resulting from processing with

26、in the alpha-beta field. Microstructure shall conform to 3.5.1.1.1.1 or 3.5.1.1.1.2.3.5.1.1.1.1 Equiaxed and/or elongated primary alpha in a transformed beta matrix with no continuous network of alpha at prior beta grain boundaries.3.5.1.1.1.2 Essentially complete field of equiaxed and/or elongated

27、alpha with no continuous network of alpha at prior beta grain boundaries.3.5.1.1.1.3 A microstructure showing a continuous network of alpha in prior beta grain boundaries is not acceptable.3.5.1.1.2 Surface ContaminationExcept as specified in 3.5.1.1.2.1 and 3.5.1.1.2.2, the product shall be free of

28、 any oxygen-rich layer (See 8.2), such as alpha case, or other surface contamination, determined by microscopic examination at not lower than 400X magnification or by other method acceptable to purchaser.3.5.1.1.2.1 An oxygen-rich layer not greater than 0.001 inch (0.025 mm) in depth will be permitt

29、ed on bars other than rounds.3.5.1.1.2.2 When permitted by purchaser, forgings and flash welded rings to be machined all over may have an oxygen-rich layer provided such layer is removable within the machining allowance.3.5.1.2 After Solution and Precipitation Heat Treatment Product, 4.000 inches (1

30、01.60 mm) and under in nominal diameter or least distance between parallel sides, shall have the following properties after being solution heat treated by heating in a suitable atmosphere to 1750 F 25 (954 C 14), holding at heat for 1 to 2.2 hours, and quenching in agitated water and precipitation h

31、eat treated by heating to 1000 F 15 (538 C 8), holding at heat for 4 to 8 hours, and cooling in air. When permitted by purchaser, other heat treatments may be used but the entire product of each lot shall be given the same heat treatment.3.5.1.2.1 Tensile Properties Shall be as shown in Table 2, det

32、ermined in accordance with ASTM E 8 / E 8M with the rate of strain set at 0.005 inch/inch/minute (0.005 mm/mm/minute) and maintained within a tolerance of 0.002 inch/inch/minute (0.002 mm/mm/minute) through the 0.2% offset yield strain.3.5.1.2.1.1 Tensile and yield strength requirements apply in bot

33、h the longitudinal and transverse directions. Transverse properties apply only to product that a transverse tensile specimen not less than 2.50 inches (63.5 mm) in length can be obtained.3.5.1.2.1.2 Yield strength and reduction of area requirements do not apply to wire under 0.125 inch (3.18 mm) in

34、nominal diameter.3.5.1.2.1.3 Specimens for the longitudinal requirements of Table 2 from bars, wire, and forgings shall have the axis of specimen in the area of the gage length varying not more than 15 degrees from parallel to the grain flow andspecimens shall be taken in the circumferential directi

35、on from flash welded rings.3.5.1.2.1.4 Mechanical property requirements for product outside the size range covered by Table 2 shall be agreed upon between purchaser and producer.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS4967L Page 5 of 93.5.2 Forging StockA sample of stock shall be forged to a test coupon and heat treat

36、ed as in 3.5.1.2, and specimens taken from the heat treated coupon shall conform to the requirements of 3.5.1.2.1. Alternately specimens taken from stock after heat treatment as in 3.5.1.2 that conform to the requirements of 3.5.1.2.1 shall be accepted as equivalent to tests of a forged coupon.3.5.3

45、520202020202020203.6 QualityThe product, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product.3.6.1 Grain flow of die forgings, except in areas that contain flash-line end grain, shall f

46、ollow the general contour of the forgings showing no evidence of reentrant grain flow.3.7 TolerancesBars and wire shall conform to all applicable requirements of AMS2241.3.8 Production, distribution, and procurement of metal stock shall comply with AS6279. This requirement becomes effective October

47、1, 2015.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for InspectionThe vendor of the product shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed neces
