This document supersedes SABS 1360-6:1985 (first edition). Preface This part of the specification has been p

7、repared under the direction of the SABS Clothing Committee. It is, in technical content, identical with ISO 4415. This part of the specification is one of a series which deals essentially with the size designation of clothes, and is not directly concerned with sizing systems as such. The primary aim

8、 of this part of the specification is, as in the other specifications in the series, to establish a size designation system that is based on body measurements, and that indicates (in a simple, direct and meaningful manner) the body size of the person that a garment is intended to fit. Provided that

9、the shape of the persons body (as indicated by the appropriate dimensions) has been accurately determined, this system will facilitate the choice of garments that fit. Choice of garment measurements is normally left to the designer and the manufacturers, who are concerned with the style, cut and oth

10、er fashion elements. 11、This page is intentionally left blank SANS 1360-6:2008 Edition 1.1 3 Size designation of clothes Part 6: Mens and boys underwear, nightwear and shirts 1 Scope 1.1 This part of the specification establishes a system of designating the sizes of mens and boys underwear garments (including nightwear and

12、 shirts) that are classified as a) covering the upper or the whole body, or b) covering the lower body only, and applies to both civilian and uniform garments. Both the control dimensions on which the size designation system is based, and the method of indicating the size designation on a garment la

13、bel, are specified. NOTE a) The standards referred to in this part of the specification are listed in appendix A. b) Examples of garments covered by this part of the specification are given in appendix B. 2 Definitions 2.1 For the purposes of this part of the specification the relevant definitions g

14、iven in SANS 10184 and the following definitions shall apply: boy a male person whose growth in height is not yet complete man a male person whose growth in height is complete standard pictogram a pictogram symbol used to indicate the position on the body of the relevant control dimensions (see figu

15、re 1). 17、ly: Waist girth f) Boys garments covering the lower body only: 1) Waist girth 2) Height 4 Size designation 4.1 General The size designation of each garment shall comprise the appropriate control dimensions (see 3.1), in centimetres, of the intended wearer of that garment. Where practicable, the stan

18、dard pictogram shall be used as a means of indicating the size designation. Where it is not practicable to use the standard pictogram, the numerical values of the control dimensions shall be given together with the appropriate descriptive words such as chest girth, waist girth, etc., in the order in

19、 which they are given in 3.1. NOTE The above requirements shall not preclude the use, in exceptional instances, of a) size designations comprising only one or two of the applicable control dimensions; b) size designations shown as a range by stating the minimum and maximum control dimensions separat

20、ed by an oblique stroke or a hyphen. SANS 1360-6:2008 Edition 1.1 5 4.2 Use of the standard pictogram 4.2.1 The minimum size of the pictogram is not specified but it shall be large enough to convey immediate understanding, and to allow the use of readily legible numerals. NOTE The recommended type f

21、or use on pictograms is UNIVERS No. U-59. 4.2.2 Girth measurements shall be shown on the left-hand side and length measurements on the right-hand side of the pictogram. 4.3 Garment measurements Garment measurements shall not be incorporated in the size designation but, where considered of value, the

22、y may be indicated separately (see 5.3). 5 Labelling 5.1 Method The size designation of each garment shall be indicated clearly, conspicuously and in plainly legible form on a label or on a swing ticket or on both. 5.2 Attachment The label or swing ticket shall be securely attached to garments in a

23、position where it is easily readable. 5.3 Additional information Information additional to the size designation may be separately indicated on the label or on the swing ticket or on both, provided that it does not in any way reduce the prominence and conspicuousness of the size designation. Such add

24、itional information may include a size code number, body measurement(s) or garment measurement(s) considered to constitute useful information. 5.4 Examples of labels The examples of labels given in figure 2 and figure 3 illustrate methods of labelling that range from the simple indication on the sta

25、ndard pictogram of the relevant control dimensions to more elaborate forms that provide additional information, such as a garment measurement or a size code number. Where the size designation is supplemented by a size code number, separation of the two, as illustrated, renders the size code number r

26、eadily recognizable as being part of a system of a size designation adopted for a limited population group only.
