、ner shall comply with the applicable provisions of SANS 1638. 4.2 Control of non-compliant material Any material deemed unsuitable for incorporation into reconditioned pneumatically powered chain hoists shall immediately be identified as such by an appropriate method. Such material shall then be so

、segregated that it cannot be used inadvertently until its disposition is determined. Such material shall be disposed of as agreed upon (see annex A). 4.3 Control of inspection, measuring and testing equipment The reconditioner shall provide and maintain sufficient calibrated (in accordance with an a

、greed national or international standard) inspection, measuring and testing equipment to demonstrate compliance with the relevant requirements of this standard. 5 Before reconditioning When identifying pneumatically powered chain hoists to be reconditioned, the following details shall be recorded: a

、) the traceable reference number of the hoist; b) the customer name; c) the name of the original manufacturer; d) the brand name; e) the type of product; and f) the working load limit (WLL). 6 Reconditioning requirements 6.1 General When reconditioned, the pneumatically powered chain hoist shall be

、restored to its original functional condition and performance specifications in accordance with SANS 1638. 6.2 Dismantling and cleaning Pneumatically powered chain hoists shall be completely dismantled and reduced to their component parts for initial evaluation before reconditioning is started. When

、 dismantled, the hoist shall be cleaned of all rust, scale and foreign matter by an acceptable method to enable inspection for cracks and measurements to be taken. SANS 1639:2010 Edition 2 5 6.3 Replaced components Replaced components shall be disposed of as agreed upon between the customer and the

、reconditioner (see annex A). 7 Apparatus Dynamic test rig, calibrated and certified every six months. 8 Methods of test 8.1 Operational test 8.1.2 Load the repaired pneumatically powered chain hoist with a test load of between 2% and 5% of the WLL. 8.1.2 Raise and lower the load through a height of

、between 250 mm to 500 mm and apply rotational force to the load. Ensure that the hooks swivel. 8.1.3 Remove the load and operate the hoist over the entire length of load chain in both directions. The chain shall travel smoothly through the hoist and the limit devices shall be activated when the trav

、el limits are reached. 8.2 Proof load and braking test 8.2.1 Load the repaired pneumatically powered chain hoist with a proof load equal to 125% of the WLL and conduct the test in accordance with the manufacturers specifications. 8.2.2 Raise and lower the test load of the pneumatically powered chain

、 hoist through a minimum distance of 2 m to ensure that every part of the hoist mechanism and each part of the gearing come under load. 8.2.3 When releasing the operating control four times at random intervals while raising and lowering the load a) the brake shall immediately engage and prevent the

、proof load from descending when the operating control is released, b) there shall be no visible defects, and c) the swivel hook shall continue to operate smoothly. 8.3 Performance test Subject each reconditioned pneumatically powered chain hoist to a) a performance test relating to the WLL, loaded l

、ifting speed and rated air pressure in accordance with the manufacturers specification, and b) an appropriate load limiter function test, if applicable. SANS 1639:2010 Edition 2 6 9 Documentation and test certificates 9.1 General Pneumatically powered chain hoists reconditioned in accordance with th

、umber or, if missing, a traceable reference number of the hoist; c) the WLL; d) the loaded lifting speed; e) the test operating air pressure range; f) the proof load; g) the range of lift; h) the load chain size and grade; i) the production batch number of the load chain; j) the batch number of the

、top and bottom hook; k) the date and place of the test; l) a statement of compliance with this standard (for example “Reconditioned in accordance with SANS 1639”); and m) the name, trade name or trademark of the reconditioner. The competent person conducting the tests shall sign, date and record his

、/her registration number on the certificate. 9.3. Load chain test certificate If the load chain has been replaced during the reconditioning process, a load chain test certificate shall be supplied with the reconditioned hoist. The certificate shall be numbered, signed and dated by the chain manufact
