These containers are intended to be emptied regularly and their contents disposed of. 1.2
、These requirements cover waste paper containers intended for use as complete assemblies, consisting of a container body and a head or cover. They may be provided with metal or nonmetallic internal liners. They are designed to: a) Limit the external surface temperatures of the container bottom should
、 their contents become ignited; b) Extinguish the re; and c) Contain the contents without contributing fuel to the re. 1.3 A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this standard, and that involves
、a risk of re, electric shock, or injury to persons shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessary to maintain the acceptable level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this standard. A product whose features, charact
、eristics, components, materials, or systems conict with specic requirements or provisions of this standard cannot be judged to comply with this standard. Where considered appropriate, revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development, rev
、ision, and implementation of this standard. 2 General 2.1 Units of measurement 2.1.1 If a value for measurement is followed by a value in other units in parentheses, the second value may be only approximate. The rst stated value is the requirement. 2.2 Components 2.2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2.2,
、a component of a product covered by this standard shall comply with the requirements for that component. 2.2.2 A component need not comply with a specic requirement that: a) Involves a feature or characteristic not needed in the application of the component in the value covered by this standard, or
、b) Is superseded by a requirement in this standard. 2.2.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its recognized rating established for the intended conditions of use. 26、STRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL 2.2.4 Specic components are recognized as being incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance capabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certain temperatures not exceeding specied limits, and shal
、l be used only under those specic conditions for which they have been recognized. 2.3 Undated references 2.3.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this standard shall be interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard. CONSTRUCTION 3 G
、eneral 3.1 Vertical seams and bottom joints of the container or of metal liners, if provided, shall be locked-seamed or welded. 3.2 The head or cover shall be provided with means for retaining it in place when assembled on the container body or may be of the type consisting of a one piece container
、body/head assembly that ts over an internal liner. 3.3 The means of retaining the head or cover to the container body may be an indented or beaded construction providing a snap type t between the parts or it may be permanently attached by means of a hinge or the equivalent. 4 Materials 4.1 The conta
、iner body and the head or cover shall be made of sheet steel or of corrosion resistant metal as described in 4.2. 4.2 The container body and the outside surface of the head or cover shall be either painted or hot-dipped galvanized unless made of corrosion resistant metal. PERFORMANCE 5 Tip-Over Test
、 5.1 The test is to be conducted on all containers which do not have a permanently attached head or cover, that is hinged, are not of the type consisting of a one piece container body/head assembly, and do not have handles on the sides of the container body. 5.2 The container shall be able to be lif
、ted by the head or cover after being tested as specied in 5.3. 5.3 One container of each type is to be tipped over ve times, at least once on each side if at sided or evenly distributed around the circumference if round. 6 Operation Test 6.1 Containers provided with a self-closing lid are to be subj
、ected to 6,000 cycles of operation. The lid shall not become inoperative to the extent that it will affect the results of the re test. 6.1 effective May 27, 1997 NOVEMBER 27, 1995 METAL WASTE PAPER CONTAINERS - UL 1315 6UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION
、WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL 7 Drop Test 7.1 Containers having less than 30 gallons (112.7 liters) of capacity, or all internal liners, if provided, are to be tested as specied in 7.3, prior to the re test. 7.2 Containers having less than 30 gallons (112.7 liters) of capacity, and all internal liners,
、 if provided, shall not rupture, break apart or be damaged to the extent that it will affect the results of the Fire Test, Section 8, after being tested as specied in 7.3. 7.3 Each test sample to be subjected to the re test is to be dropped ve times from a height of 5 feet (1.52 m) onto a concrete o
、or, so as to strike once on the bottom, the top, the side, a top corner and a bottom corner. The tests are to be conducted on samples of the liner and on samples of the container with the liner in place. 8 Fire Test 8.1 Samples of each size container, with the head or cover and liner, if provided, i

Three thermocouples are to be placed on the surface of the plywood under the contain

One thermocouple is to be placed in the center of the container and the other two are to be placed along the centerline of the container at 1/6 of the distance from each edge. 8.2 revised July 14, 1999 8.3 Separate tests are
、 to be conducted with each container lled 1/3 full, 2/3 full, and completely full of shredded, uffed newspaper, which is to be ignited by a match. The width of the strips of newspaper shall be 0.20 0.10 inch. The shredded paper, when in place in the container, is to have a bulk density of 5.1 oz/ft
