19、, Environemental conditions and test procedures for airborne equipment 4, 3 Terminology See EN 2591. 4 Description The pair of connectors is characterized : - by the receptacle with a square flange and threaded coupling ring ; - by the plug with a self-locking coupling screw. These connectors use cr

20、imp contacts. The receptacles and plugs contain either male contacts or female contacts. The connectors are polarized by a master key ; polarization shall be obtained before the male contacts enter the insulator of the female contacts and before the coupling ring is engaged. The visual control of co

21、upling is obtained by color markings on the plugs coupling ring. 4.1 Materials and surface treatment When dissimilar metals are in close contact, adequate protection against corrosion shall be used for the electromotive force of the cell not to exceed 0,25 V. 4.1.1 Housings The material of the conne

24、nsulators The materials used for the seals and grommets shall have a hardness and mechanical and electrical characteristics consistent with the required use. Non-resilient material used in the production of the insulators shall have electrical and mechanical characteristics compatible with the requi

25、red use. 5 Design 5.1 Housings They shall be in one unit. The plug shall also be fitted with an O-ring to ensure that the housings are tightly sealed when mated. The coupling ring shall be designed so that the male and female contacts engage when it is screwed to the right and disengage when it is u

26、nscrewed to the left. The coupling ring shall be knurled. On completion of tightening of the coupling ring, mechanical contact shall exist between the receptacle and the plug. Appearance of color (orange or red) in six lock displays located on the coupling ring shall show that the connectors are cor

27、rectly coupled. The contacts are fitted in the housings by compressing them with the various insulators. These insulators are fixed inside the connector housings and held in place by tightening a rear screw fitting that shall have at least three holes for passage of a lockwire. Threads shall comply

28、with FED-STD-H28. 5.2 Insulators The insulator supporting the male and female contacts shall be in rigid material and have a cross section and radii such that no cracks, flaking or breaks can occur in normal operation. The front face of the insulator shall be such that sealing is ensured when the co

29、nnectors are coupled. The interface seal of the insulator of the male contacts shall be bonded on the rigid insulator. The grommet shall permit suitable sealing for all cable diameters indicated in EN 6047-002. It shall be removable. The insulators shall be removable and mechanically polarized by a

30、keyikeyway system and held tight in place by the connector backshell. An O-ring shall be fitted to ensure correct sealing between the rear insulators and the housings. 36、d polarizing The contact arrangements are specified by figure 3 which show the front face of the female insulators. see EN 6047-002. 37、tification of the contact position shall be permanently designed in contrasting color on the front face of the insert or interfacial seal and on the rear face of the rear separator. Marking shall not be raised or recessed on the sealing surfaces. Polarizing of a receptacle and plug having the same s

38、ize of shell is achieved by rotation of the insert relative to the main key or groove (see figure 4). The various angular positions which may be adopted are shown in table 1.
