(ARINC)and thePurpose of ARINC CharacteristicsAeronautical Radio, Inc., is a corporation in which the United States scheduled airlines are the principalstockholde

7、rs. Other stockholders include a variety of other air transport companies, aircraft manufacturers andforeign flag airlines.Activities of ARINC include the operation of an extensive system of domestic and overseas aeronauticalland radio stations, the fulfillment of systems requirements frequencies to

8、 meet those needs, the coordination incidentto standard airborne communications and electronics systems and the exchange of technical information.ARINC sponsors the Airlines Electronic Engineering Committee (AEEC), composed of airline technical personnel.The AEEC formulates standards for electronic

9、equipment and systems for the airlines. The establishment ofEquipment Characteristics is a principal function of this Committee.An ARINC Equipment Characteristic is finalized after investigation and coordination with the airlines whohave a requirement or anticipate a requirement, with other aircraft

10、 operators, with the Military services havingsimilar requirements, and with the equipment manufacturers. It is released as an ARINC Equipment Characteristiconly when the interested airline companies are in general agreement. Such a release does not commit any airline orARINC to purchase equipment so

11、 described nor does it establish or indicate recognition of the existence of anoperational requirement for such equipment, nor does it constitute endorsement of any manufacturers productdesigned or built to meet the Characteristic.An ARINC Characteristic has a twofold purpose, which is:1) To indicat

12、e to the prospective manufacturers of airline electronic equipment the consideredopinion of the airline technical people coordinated on an industry basis concerning requisites ofnew equipment, and2) To channel new equipment designs in a direction which can result in the maximum possiblestandardizati

22、1.1 FunctionPart I of this Characteristic covers the systemrequirements for a ground-to-air Selective Calling System.The purpose of the system is to permit the selectivecalling of individual aircraft over normal radiocommunications circuits linking the ground station withthe aircraft. For convenienc

23、e this system is referred to asthe “SELCAL” System.1.2 ComponentsThe elements comprising the overall system are asfollows:(a) Ground Selective Calling Unit (Coder)(b) Ground-to-air transmitter, HF or VHF(c) Airborne receiver, HF or VHF(d) Airborne Selective Calling Unit (Decoder)(e) Annunciator Pane

24、l(f) Code Selection PanelItems (b) and (c) form the normal communications link.Item (a) is the ground portion of the coding device (seePart III of this Characteristic) which supplies codedinformation to the ground-to-air transmitter, Item (b).Item (d) is the special airborne equipment which isoperat

25、ing with existing communications receivers on theaircraft, Item (c), to permit decoding of the ground-to-airsignals for display on the annunciator panel (e). The typeof annunciator panel (e) should be chosen to suit theoperational requirements of the user and may contain thenecessary visual and/or a

26、udible annunciating devices. Theelectronic circuitry to activate these devices should becontained in the decoder unit (d). The code selectionpanel (f) should be chosen to suit the operationalrequirements of the user and contain either switches orjumper wiring.1.3 Application of FunctionThe selective

27、 calling system should be capable ofoperation with existing ground-to-air communicationstransmitters and receivers, working on A3A or 2AH/A3Hmodes. The normal functioning of the ground-to-aircommunications link should in no way be affected exceptat such time as the selective calling system is perfor

28、mingthe calling function.2.0 SELECTIVE CALLING TECHNIQUE2.1 GeneralSelective calling is accomplished by the coder of theground transmitter sending coded tone pulses to theaircraft receiver and decoder. Each transmitted code ismade up of two consecutive tone pulses, with each pulsecontaining two simu

29、ltaneously-transmitted tones.2.2 Transmitted CodeWhen the ground operator desires to call a particularaircraft, he depresses the buttons corresponding to thecode assigned to that aircraft. The coder then keys thetransmitter on the air causing to be transmitted twoconsecutive tone pulses of 1.0 0.25

30、sec. duration,separated by an interval of 0.2 0.1 sec. which makes upthe code. Each tone pulse consists of two simultaneously-transmitted tones. The call should consist of onetransmitted code without repetition. Diagram of thetransmitted code is shown in Figure 1 of this Part.2.3 StabilityThe freque

31、ncy of transmitted tones should be held to0.15% tolerance to insure proper operation of theairborne decoder.2.4 DistortionOverall audio distortion present on the transmitted r-fsignal should not exceed 15%.2.5 Percent ModulationThe r-f signals transmitted by the ground radio stationshould contain wi

32、thin 3 dB of equal amounts of the twomodulating tones. The combination of tones should resultin a modulation envelope having a nominal modulationpercentage of 90% and in no case less than 60%.COMMENTARYThe foregoing specification of nominal and mini-mum modulation level is understood to apply only t

33、oAM double sideband. For full carrier SSB, thecarrier should be transmitted at a constant level, notmore than 6 dB below PEP and the sideband peaksshould be equal to the level of the carrier.2.6 Received CodeThe airborne receiver and decoder equipment should becapable of receiving and interpreting b

34、y means of theindicator the correct code and rejecting all other codes inthe presence of random noises and interference. Thesystem should be capable of positive calling better thanvoice intelligibility under all conditions. A positivecalling should shall be presented to the flight crew bymeans of a

35、suitable aural or visual signaling device suchas a chime or lamp.3.0 ASSIGNED CODESCodes should be assigned to user aircraft on a directorybasis. This assignment will normally be made byassigning individual codes or blocks of codes to air carrierorganizations as requested with the maximumconsiderati

For convenience,the unit is referred to as the “SELCAL” Unit.1.2 ComponentsThe complete airborne select

46、 InterchangeabilitySELCAL equipment built to this Characteristic is notinterchangeable with equipment built to ARINC 531, orARINC 596.COMMENTARYThis equipment is electrically and functionally areplacement for the ARINC 596 repackaged in anARINC 600 1MCU unit.1.5 Regulatory ApprovalThe equipment shou

47、ld meet all applicable FAA regulatoryrequirements. This Characteristic does not and cannot setforth the specific requirements that an equipment mustmeet to be assured of FAA approval. Such informationmust be obtained from the FAA itself.2.0 INTERCHANGEABILITY STANDARDS2.1 IntroductionThis section of

48、 this Characteristic sets forth the specificform factor, mounting provisions, interwiring, input andoutput interfaces and power supply characteristics desiredfor the SELCAL System. These standards permit theparallel but independent design of compatible equipmentand airframe installations.Manufacture

49、rs should not that although this Characteristicdoes not preclude the use of standards different fromthose set forth herein, the practical problems ofredesigning a standard airframe installation toaccommodate a special equipment could very well makethe use of that equipment prohibitively expensive for thecustomer. They should recognize, therefore, the practicaladvantages of developing equipment in accordance withthe standards set forth in this document.2.2 Form Factor and ConnectorThe SELCAL unit should comply with the dimensionalstandards in ARINC Specification 600,
