See Specification A962/A962M for thedefinition of “bolting.”1.2 The following referenced general requirements are in-dispensable for application of this specification: SpecificationA962/A962M.1

4、.3 Supplementary requirements are provided for use at theoption of the purchaser. The supplementary requirements onlyapply when specified individually in the purchase order orcontract.1.4 This specification is expressed in both inch-pound andin SI units. However, unless the purchase order or contrac

Manufacture5.1 Melting ProcessBolting material alloy shall bemultiple-melted using consumable electrode practice in thereme

18、lt cycle or shall be induction melted under vacuum. Ifconsumable electrode re-melting is not performed in vacuum,electrodes produced by vacuum induction melting shall beused.5.2 Heat Treatment:5.2.1 Solution TreatmentBolting material shall be solutionheat treated at a temperature within the range of

19、 1725 to 1850F 940 to 1010 C, held at the selected temperature for a timecommensurate with cross-sectional thickness, and cooled at arate equivalent to an air cool or faster.5.2.1.1 Temperature VariationSolution treating tempera-tures shall be controlled in the range of 6 25 F 6 14 C.5.2.2 Precipita

20、tion Heat TreatmentBolting material shallbe heated to 1325 F 720 C, held at temperature for eighthours minimum, furnace cooled to 1150 F 620 C at 100 F55 C per hour, held at temperature for eight hours, andcooled to room temperature. Alternatively, bolting materialmay be furnace cooled to 1150 F 620

21、 C at any rate providedthe time at 1150 F 620 C is adjusted so the total precipi-tation heat treatment time is 18 hours minimum.5.2.2.1 Temperature VariationPrecipitation treatmenttemperatures and cooling rates shall be controlled in the rangeof 6 15 F 6 8 C.5.3 StraighteningWhen straightening is ne

22、cessary it shallbe done after solution treating and prior to aging. Straighteningafter aging is prohibited.5.4 ThreadsThreads shall be formed by rolling in one passafter oxides have been removed from the area to be threaded.5.5 Dimensions and Tolerances, BoltingFully heat treatedbolting material sha

23、ll meet the dimensional requirements ofSpecification B637 for UNS N07718.6. Chemical Composition6.1 Remelt IngotsThe chemical analyses of each remeltedingot used for bolting material shall conform to the require-ments for chemical composition prescribed in Table 1.6.2 Product AnalysisIf a product (c

24、heck) analysis is per-formed by the purchaser, the bolting material shall conform tothe product (check) analysis variations prescribed in Specifi-cation B880.7. Mechanical Properties7.1 Tensile and HardnessAll testing shall be performedafter aging. The test specimens shall meet the requirements ofTa

25、ble 2.7.2 Stress RuptureStress rupture testing shall be con-ducted in accordance with Table 2 using a combination test barin accordance with Test Methods E292. Rupture must occur inthe smooth section of each test specimen.7.3 Headed Bolting ComponentsIn addition to 7.1 and7.2, headed bolting compone

26、nts such as bolts, studs, or screwswith a body length three times the diameter of the componentor longer shall be subjected to full size tensile test and shallconform to the tensile strength shown in Table 2. Metallography8.1 MicrostructureThe microstructure of the bolting ma-terial shall be free of freckles, white spots

32、, and Laves phases.Threads of bolting components may show evidence of coldworking as a result of rolling. The average grain size shall bedetermined in accordance with Test Methods E112 and foundto be ASTM No. 5 or finer. Up to 20 % of the structure mayhave a grain size as large as a No. 3 due to the

33、 presence ofnon-crystallized grains.8.2 MacrostructureBolting components produced fromforgings shall exhibit continuous flow lines in the threads andin any shank to head or fillet and/or bearing surface areas.9. Number of Tests9.1 ChemistryOne test per remelt ingot of bolting mate-rial.9.2 Mechanica

34、l PropertiesThe number of tests shall be inaccordance with Specification A962/A962M except that forstress rupture one test shall be run per lot. For headed boltingcomponents with a body length less than three times thediameter of the component, a separately forged test bar may beused for tensile and

35、 stress rupture testing provided it isheat-treated with the components. Separately forged bars shallbe approximately the same diameter as the headed boltingcomponent they represent.9.3 Grain SizeOne test per lot.9.4 Flow LinesOne test per lot on forged bolting compo-nents after final machining.9.5 H
