3、ted in May 2017.1. Scope*1.1 This specification2covers the chemical and mechanicalrequirements of two grades of carbon steel bolts and studs insizes14 in. through 4 in. The fasteners are designated by“Grade” denoting tensile strength and intended use, as follows:Grade DescriptionGrade A Bolts, studs

4、, and threadedrod having a minimumtensile strength of 60 ksiand intended for generalapplications,Grade B Bolts, studs, and threadedrodAhaving a tensilestrength of 60 to 100 ksi andintended for flanged joints inpiping systems with cast ironflanges, andGrade C Replaced by SpecificationF1554 Gr.36AThre

5、aded rod is not usually produced to Grade B, but can be when specified bythe purchaser.1.2 This specification does not cover requirements formachine screws, thread cutting/forming screws, mechanicalexpansion anchors or similar externally threaded fasteners.1.3 Suitable nuts are covered in Specificat

6、ion A563. Unlessotherwise specified, the grade and style of nut for each grade offastener, of all surface finishes, shall be as follows:Fastener Grade and Size Nut Grade and StyleAA14 to 112 in. 18、for externally threaded fasteners (including nutsand accessories) under this specification shall include thefollowing:3.1.1 ASTM designation and year of issue,3.1.2 Name of product, bolts or studs; and bolt head style,that is, hex or heavy hex, or threaded rod,3.1.3 Grade, that is, A, or B. If no gr

19、ade is specified, GradeA is furnished.3.1.4 Quantities (number of pieces by size including nuts),3.1.5 Fastener size and length,3.1.6 WashersQuantity and size (separate from bolts),3.1.7 Zinc CoatingSpecify the zinc-coating processrequired, for example, hot-dip, mechanically deposited, or nopreferen

Materials and Manufacture4.1 Steel for bolts, studs, and threaded rod shall be made bythe open-hearth, basic-oxygen, or electric-furnace process.4.2 Bolts shall be produced by hot or cold forging of theheads or machining from bar stock.4.3 Heat Treatment:4.

22、3.1 Cold headed fasteners with head configurations otherthan hex having a minimum head height less than or equal to.5 D (D is nominal diameter) shall be stress relief annealed ata minimum temperature of 875F.4.3.2 Stress relieving of hex head fasteners and those withminimum head heights greater than

23、 .5 D shall be at themanufacturers option.4.4 Bolt and stud threads shall be rolled or cut.4.5 Zinc Coatings, Hot-Dip and Mechanically Deposited:4.5.1 When zinc-coated fasteners are required, the pur-chaser shall specify the zinc-coating process, for example hotdip, mechanically deposited, or no pre

24、ference.4.5.2 When hot-dip is specified, the fasteners shall bezinc-coated by the hot-dip process in accordance with therequirements of Specification F2329.4.5.3 When mechanically deposited is specified, the fasten-ers shall be zinc-coated by the mechanical-deposition processin accordance with the r

25、equirements of Class 55 of Specifica-tion B695.4.5.4 When no preference is specified, the supplier mayfurnish either a hot-dip zinc coating in accordance withSpecification F2329, or a mechanically deposited zinc coatingin accordance with Specification B695, Class 55. Threadedcomponents (bolts and nu

26、ts) shall be coated by the samezinc-coating process and the suppliers option is limited to oneprocess per item with no mixed processes in a lot.5. Chemical Composition5.1 Grade A and B bolts, studs, and threaded rod shall havea heat analysis conforming to the requirements specified inTable 1 based o

27、n the steel producers heat analysis.5.2 The purchaser shall have the option of conductingproduct analyses on finished bolts in each lot, which shallconform to the product analysis specified in Table 1.5.3 In case of conflict or for referee purposes, the productanalysis shall take precedence.5.4 Bolt

28、s and studs are customarily furnished from stock, inwhich case individual heats of steel cannot be identified.5.5 Application of heats of steel to which bismuth,selenium, tellurium, or lead has been intentionally added shallnot be permitted for Grade B bolts and studs.5.6 Chemical analyses shall be

29、performed in accordancewith Test Methods, Practices, and Terminology A751.6. Mechanical Properties6.1 Grades A and B bolts, studs, and threaded rod shallconform to the hardness specified in Table 2.6.2 Grade A and B bolts, studs, and threaded rod 1 in. indiameter or less, other than those excepted i

Threaded rod is permitted to becut to a length suitable for tensile testing and shall be treatedusing the same method specified for studs.6.3 GradeAand B bolts, studs, and threaded rod lar

33、ger than112 in. in diameter, other than those excepted in 6.4, shallpreferably be tested full size and when equipment of sufficientcapacity is available and shall conform to the requirements fortensile strength specified in Table 3. When equipment ofsufficient capacity for full-size testing is not a

34、vailable, or whenthe length of the bolt or stud makes full-size testingimpractical, machined specimens shall be tested and shallconform to the requirements specified in Table 4.6.4 GradesAand B bolts and studs less than three diametersin nominal length or bolts with drilled or undersize heads arenot

35、 subject to tensile tests.6.5 In the event that bolts, studs, and threaded rod are testedby both full size and by machine test specimen methods, thefull-size test shall govern if a controversy between the twomethods exists.6.6 For bolts, studs, and threaded rod on which bothhardness and tension test

36、s are performed, acceptance based ontensile requirements shall take precedence in the event thatthere is controversy over low readings of hardness tests.7. Dimensions7.1 Unless otherwise specified, threads on bolts and studsshall be the Coarse Thread Series as specified in the latest issueof ASME B1

37、.1, and shall have a Class 2A tolerance. Unlessotherwise specified, threads on threaded rod shall be per therequirements of the latest issue of ASME B18.31.3.7.2 Unless otherwise specified, Grade A bolts shall be hexbolts with dimensions as given in the latest issue of ASMEB18.2.1. Unless otherwise

38、specified, Grade B bolts shall beheavy hex bolts with dimensions as given in the latest issue ofASME B18.2.1. Unless otherwise specified, threads onthreaded rod shall be per the requirements of the latest issue ofASME B18.31.3.7.3 Unless otherwise specified, bolts, studs, and threadedrod to be used

49、nship, Finish, and Appearance8.1 Surface discontinuity limits, inspection and evaluationshall be in accordance with Specification F788/F788M.9. Number of Tests and Retests9.1 The requirements of this specification shall be met incontinuous mass production for stock, and the manufacturershall make sample inspections to ensure that the productconforms to the specified requirements. Additional tests ofindividual shipments of material are not ordinarily contem-plated. Individual heats of steel are not identified in the
