Common Requirements4.1 Bolting supplied to this specification shall conform tothe requirements of Speci
9、ficationA962/A962M. These require-ments include test methods, finish, thread dimensions, macroetch, marking, certification, optional supplementary require-ments, and others. Failure to comply with the requirements ofSpecification A962/A962M constitutes nonconformance withthis specification. In case
10、of conflict between this specificationand Specification A962/A962M, this specification shall pre-vail.5. Manufacture5.1 Bolting material shall be supplied hot-rolled or hot-forged or cold-finished at the option of the producer. However,if desired by the purchaser, cold finishing may be specified.6.
11、Heat Treatment6.1 Bolting material ordered in the annealed condition shallhave a structure suitable for machining. Such annealed materialis not intended to be used without subsequent quenching andtempering as specified in 6.21This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee A01 on Stee

15、en, PA 19428-2959, United States.6.2 Bolting ordered in the liquid-quenched and temperedcondition shall be uniformly reheated from a temperaturebelow the cooling transformation range to the proper austen-itizing temperature, quenched in a liquid medium under sub-stantially uniform conditions, and th
16、en uniformly reheated fortempering. The minimum tempering temperature shall be 850F 455 C.6.3 Material that has been straightened after quenching andtempering shall be stress relieved by reheating to a temperaturenot lower than 100 F 55 C under the tempering tempera-ture.7. Chemical Composition7.1 T
17、he steel shall conform to the chemical requirementsprescribed in Table 1.8. Tensile Requirements8.1 Material furnished in the annealed condition shall becapable of meeting the specified tensile properties for the classas specified in Table 2 when heat treated in accordance with 6.2and 6.3 (see Suppl
18、ementary Requirement S4).8.2 Bolting in the quenched and tempered or quenched,tempered and stress-relieved condition shall conform to prop-erties shown in Table 2 for the specified class.9. Hardness Requirements9.1 The hardness shall be determined on the surface of thematerial after removal of decar
19、burization.9.2 The hardness of material in the annealed condition shallnot be greater than 235 HBW.9.3 The hardness of material in the quenched and temperedor quenched, tempered and stress-relieved condition shall bewithin the limits in Table 2 for the specified class.10. Impact Requirements10.1 Ann
20、ealed material after proper heat treatment shall becapable of meeting the impact requirements in Table 2 or ofSupplementary Requirement S8, if so specified (see Supple-mentary Requirement S4).10.2 Material in the quenched and tempered or quenched,tempered, and stress-relieved condition shall conform
21、 to theimpact requirements in Table 2, or of Supplementary Require-ment S8 if so specified.10.3 The percent of shear (ductility or fibrous) fracture shallbe computed. The computed value shall be recorded for allimpact specimens.10.4 The amount of lateral expansion shall be measured.The measured valu

Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance11.1 The material shall be uniform in quality and free ofdefects that would be detrimental to the intended service. Ifmagnetic particle inspection fo
47、r such defects is desired,Supplementary Requirement S6 should be specified.11.2 Surface QualityMaterial shall be free of seams, laps,cracks, or other defects that are not removable within themachining cleanup allowance specified in Table 3.12. Surface Condition12.1 Material shall be cleaned and furn

Number of Tests13.1 Mechanical Tests on Quenched and Tempered Mate-rial:13.1.1 One test coupon shall be removed from each end ofone bar, one seamless tube, or one bored bar or from each oftwo forged hollows from each size of each heat in eachtempering charge, or
49、 each 10 000 lb 4540 kg, whichever isless. One tension test and one impact test consisting of threeCharpy V-notch specimens shall be taken from each testcoupon. For testing in accordance with 15.1.1, two tests shallbe obtained from two representative production pieces fromeach size of each heat in each tempering charge or each 10 000lb 4540 kg, whichever is less.13.1.2 Hardness Test:13.1.2.1 Bars 2 in. 50 mm and over and all seamless tubesor bored bars shall be tested near each end of e
