Classification4.1 The wire strand is classified as follows.4.1.1 Breaking Strength is expressed as Grade 1 or Grade 2for strand having a Class A zinc coating on the outer wires ofthe strand. Strand with h
7、eavier coating on the outer wires isavailable in only one grade.4.1.2 Coating Weight is expressed as Class A, Class B, orClass C, based on the weight of coating on the outer wires inthe strand. All inner wires have a Class A coating.5. Ordering Information5.1 Orders for material under this specifica

Material6.1 Base MetalThe base metal shall be carbon steel madeby the open-hearth, basic-oxygen, or electric-furnace processand of such quality that the
11、finished strand and the hard-drawnindividual zinc-coated wires coated by the hot-dip or electro-lytic process shall have the properties and characteristics asprescribed in this specification.6.2 ZincThe slab zinc when used shall conform to Speci-fication B6.7. The wire test sample shall be prestretched,
16、at themanufacturers option to 55 % of the minimum tensile strengthspecified in Table 4 prior to conducting the tests.7.1.3 The tensile strength and the stress at 0.7 % extensionshall be based on the actual cross-sectional area of the finishedwire, including the zinc coating.7.1.4 Test SpecimensThe t
17、est specimens shall be free ofbends or kinks other than the curvature resulting from the usualcoiling operation. The hand straightening necessary to permitinsertion of the specimen in the jaws of the testing machineshall be performed by drawing between wood blocks or bysome other equally satisfactor
18、y means.7.2 Stress at 0.7 % Extension Under LoadThe value ofstress at 0.7 % extension under load shall be determined by oneof the following procedures, depending on the type of exten-someter used:7.2.1 Non-Autographic ExtensometerWhen a non-autographic extensometer is used to measure the 0.7 % exten
19、-sion, it shall have a gage length of 10 in. 254 mm, and it shallbe so graduated that the smallest division corresponds to astrain not larger than 0.0001 in./in. 0.0001 mm/mm of gagelength. The stress correspond-ing to this load shall meet the requirements for the stress of0.7 % extension specified in Table 4, depending on the class ofcoating under con
27、sideration. Hold the specimen at 0.7 %extension under load and remove the extensometer used tomeasure the stress at 0.7 % extension; then replace it with anelongation extensometer. Continue the application of load untilfracture occurs. Record the elongation attained from theelongation extensometer a
28、nd add to it 0.7 % obtained from thestress at 0.7 % extensometer to get the total elongation.7.2.2 Autographic ExtensometerWhen an autographic ex-tensometer is used, it shall have a gage length of at least 2 in.50.8 mm and the magnification of strain shall not be less than250. Apply a load, correspo
29、nding to the tensile stress indicatedin Table 5, using the nominal diameter of the specimen.Maintain this load and attach the extensometer. Then increasethe load uniformly until the extension recorded by the exten-someter is at least 0.7 %. Determine the load at 0.7 % exten-sion from the load-strain
30、 curve. Hold the specimen at 0.7 %extension under load and remove the extensometer used tomeasure the stress at 0.7 % extension; then re

Record the elongation attained from theelongation extensometer and add to it 0.7 % obtained from thestress at 0.7 % extensometer to get the total elongation.NOTE 2The extensometer used for the stress at 0
38、.7 % extension andthe elongation extensometer may be the same instrument. Two separateinstruments are advisable since the more sensitive stress at 0.7 %extensometer that could be damaged when the wire fractures may beremoved following the determination of the 0.7 % extension. The elon-gation extenso
39、meter may be constructed with less sensitive parts or beconstructed in such a way that little damage would result if fracture occurswhile the extensometer is attached to the specimen.7.3 ElongationIn determining total elongation (elasticplus plastic extension) use either autographic or extensometerm
40、ethods. If fracture takes place outside the middle third of thegage length, the elongation value obtained is not necessarilyrepresentative of the material.7.4 Tensile StrengthThe tensile strength is determinedfrom the maximum load during the total elongation test.7.5 Ductility of SteelThe zinc-coate
41、d wire, prior to fabri-cation into strand, shall be capable of being wrapped two turnsin a close helix at a rate not exceeding 15 turns per minutearound a cylindrical steel mandrel equal to three times thenominal diameter of the wire under test without fracture of thewire.7.6 Weight of Zinc CoatingT
42、he weight of zinc coating onthe individual wires prior to fabrication of strand shall be notless than that specified in Table 3.7.7 Adherence of CoatingThe zinc-coated wire, prior tofabrication into strand, shall be capable of being wrapped twoturns in a close helix at a rate not exceeding 15 turns
43、per minutearound a cylindrical steel mandrel equal to five times thenominal diameter of the wire under test without cracking orflaking the zinc coating to such an extent that any zinc can beremoved by rubbing with the bare fingers. Loosening ordetachment during the adherence test of superficial smal
