Scope*1.1 This specification covers

3、 soft, medium, and hard temperzinc-coated (galvanized) carbon steel wire in coils for generaluse.1.2 The supplementary requirements of this specificationcover zinc-coated weights masses for nails, staples, and wirefrom which nails and staples are cut and formed.1.3 This specification is applicable t

4、o orders in eitherinch-pound units (as A641) or SI units (as A641M). Valuesstated in either inch-pound units or SI units are to be regardedseparately as the standard. Within the text, the SI units areshown in brackets. The values stated in the two systems are notexact equivalents; therefore, each sy

5、stem shall be used inde-pendent of the other, without combining values in any way.1.4 This specification and some referenced specificationsare expressed in both inch-pound and SI units. If the orderspecifies the applicable “M” specification designation, theproduct shall be furnished to SI units.1.5

Terminology3.1 DefinitionsFor definitions of terms used in thisspecification, refer to Terminology A902.4. Classification4.1 TemperThe wire is classified with regard to mechani-

9、cal properties by temper, which is related to tensile strengthand stiffness. The temper designations are soft, medium, andhard.4.2 Zinc CoatingZinc coating on the wire is classified ina number of classes (Class 1, 2, 3, or A, 4, B, 5, C (see Table1, Table 2, Table 3, and Table S1.1) and as “regular

10、coating.”NOTE 1Class 2 coating has been eliminated since it is no longergenerally specified by users except for nails, staples, and wire from whichnails and staples are cut and formed, as presented in the SupplementaryRequirements.5. Ordering Information5.1 Orders for material under this specificati

11、on shall includethe following information:5.1.1 Quantity (weight mass),5.1.2 Coated wire diameter,5.1.3 Intended use, when the wire is to be used for nails orstaples (see Supplementary Requirement S1),5.1.4 Class of coating (see Table 1, Table 2,orTable 3 (orTable S1.1 when applicable),5.1.5 Temper

Materials and Manufacture6.1 The steel from which the wire is produced shall be madeby any commercially accepted steel making process.6.2 The slab zinc when used shall be any grade of zincconforming to Specification B6.7. M

18、echanical Properties7.1 The zinc-coated wire, as represented by the test speci-mens tested in accordance with Test Methods E8, shallconform to the tensile strength requirements prescribed inTable 4 or Table 5. Tensile strength-mechanical propertiesother than specified in Table 4 or Table 5 can be or

19、dered uponagreement between the purchaser and producer.7.2 Test specimens found to contain a weld or obviousimperfections shall be discarded and another test specimenobtained to verify conformance to the tensile strength require-ments.8. Permissible Variations8.1 The permissible variation in diamete

20、r of the zinc-coatedwire as represented by the test specimens shall meet therequirements shown in Table 6 or Table 7.9. Weight Mass of Coating9.1 The zinc-coated wire, as represented by the test speci-mens tested in accordance with Section 12 and Test MethodA90/A90M, shall conform to the requirement

21、s of Table 1,Table 2,orTable 3 for minimum weight mass of zinc coatingof the class specified. Individual results not more than 10 %below the minimum values specified in Table 1, Table 2,orTable 3 are allowed, if the average of at least two samples fromthe same coil are equal to or greater than the m

22、inimum valuespecified in Table 1, Table 2,orTable 3.9.2 Zinc-coated wire produced as “regular coating” shallhave the full surface covered with zinc, but there is no specifiedminimum weight of coating.10. Adherence of Coating10.1 The zinc-coated wire as represented by the test speci-mens shall be cap

23、able of being wrapped in a close helix at arate not exceeding 15 turns/min around a cylindrical steelmandrel having a diameter as prescribed in Table 8 or Table 9without cracking or flaking the zinc coating to such an extentthat any zinc can be removed by rubbing with the bare fingers.Loosening or d

24、etachment during the adhesion test ofsuperficial, small particles of zinc formed by mechanicalpolishing of the surface of the zinc-coated wire shall not beconsidered cause for rejection.11. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance11.1 The zinc-coated wire shall be free of slivers, scale, andother imperfe

25、ctions not consistent with good commercialpractice. The coating shall be continuous and reasonablyuniform. Number of Tests and Retests12.1 The number of test specimens taken from the ends ofcoils during production to ensure compliance with Sections 7,8, 9, and 10 vary with the quality c

31、ontrol procedures and themanufacturing facilities of each manufacturer but is generallynot less than 10 % of the coils produced. For the purpose offinal product testing, one specimen from every ten coils orfraction thereof in a lot shall be selected at random or a total ofseven specimens, whichever

32、is less.12.2 A wire sample of sufficient length, approximately 4 ft1.2 m, shall be cut from either end of each coil selected fortests described in Sections 7, 8, 9, and 10.12.3 If one or more of the wire specimens fail anyrequirement, the lot shall be subjected to retest. For retestpurposes, the ori

33、ginal lot shall be regrouped into 50 coil lots orfractions thereof. Each lot shall be 10 % tested for the propertyin which the original sample failed to comply. The number ofsamples thus selected shall be at least twice the number of theoriginal sampling. Any lot that exhibits a failure shall bereje

34、cted.12.3.1 The manufacturer has the option of testing each coilin the failed lot for the property in which the failure occurred,rejecting the nonconforming coils. Inspection13.1 Unless otherwise specified in the purchase order orcontract, the manufacturer is responsible for the performanceof all inspection and test requirements specified in this speci-fication. Except as otherwise specified in the purchase order orcontract, the manufacturer sh

48、all use his own or other suitablefacilities for the performance of the inspection and testrequirements, at his option, unless disapproved by the pur-chaser at the time the order is placed. The purchaser shall havethe right to perform any of the inspection and tests prescribedin this specification wh

49、en such inspections and tests aredeemed necessary to ensure that the material conforms toprescribed requirements.14. Rejection and Rehearing14.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirements ofthis specification is subject to rejection. Rejection shall bereported to the producer or supplier promptly and in writing. Incase of dissatisfaction with the results of the test, the produceror supplier shall make claim for a rehearing.15.
