1、Designation: A 689 97 (Reapproved 2002)Standard Specification forCarbon and Alloy Steel Bars for Springs1This standard is issued under the fixed designation A 689; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last re

2、vision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers hot-wrought steel bars to beused for the manufacture of general-purpose springs such ascoil, torsi

The primary melting may incorporate separate degas-sing or refining and may be followed by secondary meltingusing electroslag remelting or vacuum arc remelting. Wheresecondary melting is employed, the heat shall be defined as

9、allof the ingots remelted from a single primary heat.5. Chemical Composition or Hardenability Requirements5.1 When the steel is specified by chemical composition, thestandard steel grades are the AISI series 1000, 4100, 5100,6100, 8600, and 9200, and those including Boron AISI series10B00, 15B00, 50

10、B00, and 51B00. The specific grades arelisted in Specifications A 322 and A 576.5.2 Modifications may be made in the chemistry of thestandard AISI grades to suit the hardenability required for aparticular bar size, spring shape, or other special requirements. The steel supplier should be consulted on
