Scope*1.1 This specification2covers chromium-molybdenum-vanadium alloy steel plates intended primarily for the fab

3、rica-tion of welded pressure vessels.1.2 The plates furnished under this specification are re-quired to be normalized-and-tempered. Specification A 542/A 542M includes coverage of the material in the quenched-and-tempered condition.1.3 The maximum thickness of plates furnished to thisspecification i

4、s limited only by the capacity of the compositionto meet the specified property requirements. However, themaximum thickness of plates normally furnished under thisspecification is 6 in. 150 mm.1.4 The material is intended to be suitable for fusionwelding. Welding technique is of fundamental importan

5、ce andit is presupposed that welding procedures will be in accordancewith approved methods.1.5 This specification is expressed in both inch-pound unitsand in SI units. However, unless the order specifies theapplicable “M” specification designation (SI units), the mate-rial shall be furnished to inch

6、-pound units.1.6 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, theSI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in eachsystem must be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in nonconfo

General Requirements and Ordering Information3.1 Material supplied to this material

9、 specification shallconform to Specification A 20/A 20M. These requirementsoutline the testing and retesting methods and procedures,permissible variations in dimensions, quality and repair ofdefects, marking, loading, etc.3.2 Specification A 20/A 20M establishes the rules for or-dering information t

10、hat should be complied with when pur-chasing material to this specification.3.3 In addition to the basic requirements of this specifica-tion, certain supplementary requirements are available whenadditional control, testing, or examination is required to meetend use requirements. These include the fo

11、llowing:3.3.1 Vacuum treatment,3.3.2 Additional or special tension testing,3.3.3 Impact testing, and3.3.4 Nondestructive examination.3.4 The purchaser is referred to the listed supplementaryrequirements in this specification and to the detailed require-ments in Specification A 20/A 20M. If the requi

12、rements of thisspecification are in conflict with the requirements of Specifi-cationA 20/A 20M, the requirements of this specification shallprevail.4. Manufacture4.1 Steelmaking ProcessThe steel shall be made by one ofthe processes permitted in Specification A 20/A 20M.1This specification is under t

13、he jurisdiction of ASTM Committee A01 on Steel,Stainless Steel, and Related Alloys and is the direct responsibility of SubcommitteeA01.11 on Steel Plates for Boilers and Pressure Vessels.Current edition approved March 1, 2006. 16、ng PracticeThe steel shall be killed andshall conform to the fine grain size requirement of Specifica-tion A 20/A 20M.5. Heat Treatment5.1 All plates shall be normalized and tempered except asallowed by 5.2. The minimum normalizing temperature forGrade 22V shall be 1650F 900C. The minimum normaliz-i

17、ng temperature for Grade 23V shall be 1850F 1010C. Theminimum tempering temperature shall be 1250F 675C.5.2 Plates ordered without the heat treatment required by5.1 shall be furnished in either the stress-relieved or theannealed condition. Heat treatment of plates so ordered, toconform to 5.1 and to

18、 Table 1, shall be the responsibility of thepurchaser.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements as tochemical composition shown in Table 2.7. Mechanical Properties7.1 Tension Test Requirements:7.1.1 The material as represented by the tension test speci-mens shall conform

19、 to the requirements of Table 1.7.2 Notch Toughness Requirements:7.2.1 A transverse Charpy V-notch test from each plate asheat-treated shall have a minimum energy absorption value of40 ftlbf 54 J average of three specimens and 35 ftlbf 48 Jfor one specimen only in the set.7.2.2 The notch toughness t

20、est temperature shall be 0F18C.8. Impact Properties After Step

32、 CoolingS63.1 The Charpy V-notch impact properties shall be deter-mined as follows:S63.1.1 A sufficient amount of Charpy V-notch test speci-mens shall be taken from the same location from a plate fromeach heat of steel to construct two transition temperaturecurves.S63.1.2 The test specimens for one

33、transition temperaturecurve shall be given the minimum post-weld heat treatment(PWHT) cycle specified by the purchaser.S63.2 The test specimens for the other transition tempera-ture curve shall be given the PWHT cycle specified in S63.1.2plus the following step cooling heat treatment:Hold at 1100F (

34、593C) for 1 h, then cool at 10F (5.6C)/hto 1000F (538C).Hold at 1000F (538C) for 15 h, then cool at 10F (5.6C)/hto 975F (524C).Hold at 975F (524C) for 24 h, then cool at 10F (5.6C)/hto 925F (496C).Hold at 925F (496C) for 60 h, then cool at 5F (2.8C)/hto 875F (468C).Hold at 875F (468C) for 100 h, the

35、n cool at 50F(27.8C)/h to 600F (315C).Cool in still air.S63.3 Test the Charpy V-notch test specimens in accordancewith Test Methods and Definitions A 370 to determine the40-ft-lbs (55 J) transition temperature from each transitiontemperature curve using a set of three test specimens at eachtest temp
