17、er.4.3 This practice may be used as a basis for accreditation.5. Responsibilities and Duties5.1 The agency shall ensure that only tests for which it isadequately equipped and staffed are performed.5.2 The agency shall ensure that personnel perform onlytests for which they are adequately trained, qua
18、lified, andcertified in accordance with applicable specifications.5.3 The agency shall ensure that all equipment is properlymaintained in good operating condition and is calibrated asapplicable.5.4 The agency shall perform all testing in accordance withappropriate standards and quality control crite
19、ria. Documentsunique to the user shall be furnished to the agency.6. General Capabilities6.1 Laboratory TestingThe laboratory testing services ofthe masonry materials testing agency shall include some or allof the following capabilities:6.1.1 Testing of masonry units in the laboratory,6.1.2 Testing
20、of masonry mortars in the laboratory, and6.1.3 Testing of aggregates for compliance with specifica-tion requirements.NOTE 1Since the requirements for construction control can vary fromproject to project depending upon the nature of the type, location, andintended use of the masonry in the project, t
21、he capability of the agency fortesting should be that necessary to accomplish construction control for theusers specific project or special requirements.7. Personnel Qualifications7.1 Management and SupervisionAll relevant testing ser-vices shall be provided under the Full-Time technical directionof
22、 a registered professional Engineer, with at least 5 years ofexperience in inspecting and testing masonry materials or aperson of equivalent science-oriented education and experi-ence.7.1.1 It is satisfactory for a person to fill one or more of thelevels of management in an agency, Manager, Supervis
23、or, orTechnician positions in accordance with 7 and 7.2 providingthat person is qualified position.7.2 Supervising Laboratory TechnicianThe supervisinglaboratory technician shall have at least five years experienceperforming tests on materials. This person shall be able todemonstrate, either by oral
24、 or written examination, or both, theability to perform the tests normally required in the mannerstipulated under ASTM or other governing procedures andshall be capable of evaluating the test results in terms ofspecification compliance.8. Quality System Criteria8.1 The agency shall establish and imp
25、lement a qualitysystem that meets the criteria in subsections 8.2 to 8.14.8.2 Quality System Manual (QSM)The agency shall es-tablish and maintain a QSM that conforms to the requirementsin Section 9. Each document in the QSM shall indicate itspreparation date. If a document is revised, the date of re
26、visionshall be indicated on the document. The QSM shall beavailable for use by laboratory staff.8.3 Quality System ManagementThe agency shall desig-nate a person(s) having responsibility for the quality systemand its implementation. The quality manager ensures thatactivities are being conducted by a
27、gency staff in the mannerspecified in the agencys quality system manual and hasresponsibility for maintaining and revising it. This individu-al(s) shall have direct access to top management (see Note 2).NOTE 2This individual(s) may have other responsibilities (for ex-ample, laboratory manager).8.4 L
28、aboratory Procedure ManualA written laboratoryprocedure manual outlining the method or inspection proce-dure for each test or service performed by the laboratory.NOTE 3Inspection and testing procedures may reference publishedstandards.8.5 EquipmentThe agency shall calibrate or verify allsignificant
29、testing equipment associated with tests covered bythe scope of this standard which the agency performs. As aminimum, the equipment listed in 8.5.2 shall be included if itis associated with tests performed by the agency. Applicableequipment shall be calibrated or verified at the intervalsspecified in
30、 the agencys QSM. The intervals specified in theQSM shall be no greater than those indicated in 8.5.2 (see Note4). Newly acquired equipment without manufacturers certifi-cation and equipment that has not been calibrated or verifiedbecause it has been removed from service shall be calibrated orverifi
31、ed before being placed in service. The agency shall havedetailed written procedures for all in-house calibration andverification activities not addressed in standards. These proce-dures shall indicate the equipment required to perform thecalibration or verification. In addition to standard test meth
32、odrequirements, the conditions listed in 8.5.2 must be met.8.5.1 Calibration and Verification RecordsThe agencyshall maintain calibration and verification records for allequipment specified in the QSM. Such records shall include:8.5.1.1 Description of the equipment calibrated or verified,including m
33、odel and serial number or other acceptable identi-fication (see Note 5),8.5.1.2 Date the work was done,8.5.1.3 Identification of individual performing work,8.5.1.4 Identification of calibration or verification procedureused,8.5.1.5 The previous calibration or verification date andnext due date,8.5.1
34、.6 Identification of any calibration or verification de-vice used, and8.5.1.7 Specific criteria required for each piece of equip-ment listed in 8.5.2.8.5.2 Masonry Test Equipment:8.5.2.1 Balances and WeightsRecord must include testpoints and corresponding percentage of error. 38、on must be performed at intervals notexceeding 12 months.8.5.2.5 Mechanical ShakersCheck the period of mechani-cal agitation for adequacy of sieving as described in TestMethod C 136. Record must include length of time for theproper efficiency of sieving. Verification must be performed atintervals no
39、t exceeding 12 months.8.5.2.6 Mixers (for Specification C 270)Inspect andverify conformance to the requirements of Practice C 305.Verification must be performed at intervals not exceeding 30months.8.5.2.7 Cylindrical MoldsMust comply with the require-ments of Specification C 470/C 470M. Record must
40、includedimensions and results of water-tightness test. Verificationmust be performed at intervals not exceeding 12 months.8.5.2.8 OvensVerify settings with a certified referencethermometer. Record must include test points, reading, andadjustments if necessary. Calibration must be performed atinterva
41、ls not exceeding 4 months.8.5.2.9 SievesVerify the accuracy of each sieve used inthe test for sieve analysis (Test Methods C117and C 136)inaccordance with the procedures prescribed in the Annex ofSpecification E11. Record must include detailed results ofsieve verification. Verification must be perfo
42、rmed at intervalsnot exceeding 6 months.8.5.2.10 ThermometersVerify using a water or oil bathand a NIST-traceable calibrated reference temperature measur-ing device. Record must include test points and readings at testpoints. Calibration must be performed at intervals not exceed-ing 12 months.8.5.2.
43、11 TimersCheck for accuracy. Record must includetest points, readings at test points. Verification must be per-formed at intervals not exceeding 12 months.8.5.2.12 Water RetentionCheck for conformance to theapplicable requirements of Test Method C 1506. Calibrationmust be performed at intervals not
44、exceeding 30 months.8.5.2.13 Air Content MeasureCalibrate following the pro-cedures described in Test Method C 185. Verification must beperformed at intervals not exceeding 30 months.8.5.2.14 Flow TableCheck using the calibration materialdescribed in Specification C 230/C 230M. Verification must bep
