10、se4.1 This is a guide to help a manufacturer distributor, orimporter establish a reasonable basis for care information.4.2 The manufacturer, distributor, or importer shouldpossess, prior to sale, reliable evidence that the product was notharmed when refurbished reasonably often according to theinstr

Summary of Guide5.1 This guide describes general procedures for determiningand confirming instructions on a care label for a textile product.5.2 General procedures includ

17、e setting minimum or maxi-mum performance specifications for the product, selectingappropriate standards and test methods to match the care labelinstructions, conducting the testing and evaluation process, andwriting the report.5.3 The products are evaluated for change in dimension,hand, appearance,

18、 or other performance characteristics as aresult of refurbishing.6. General Considerations6.1 Care instructions can be determined by testing thecomponent parts or by testing the completed textile product orboth if necessary.6.1.1 When confirming the care label the testing shall bedone on the complet

19、ed textile product.6.2 The test methods and evaluation processes selected torepresent the washing, bleaching, drying, ironing, and dry-cleaning care label instructions shall simulate at least 3complete refurbishing cycles.6.2.1 The actual number of complete refurbishing cyclesshall be agreed upon by

20、 the purchaser and the supplier.6.2.2 One complete refurbishing cycle includes either (1)laundering including washing and drying, and, if appropriate,bleaching and/or ironing; (2) drycleaning and pressing; or, (3)wet cleaning and restorative treatment.6.3 Test results that meet or exceed the preset

21、specificationsfor performance characteristic confirm the selection of thesuitable care label instructions.7. Product Characteristics for Evaluation as a Result ofRefurbishing7.1 Change in Dimensions:7.1.1 Shrinkage.7.1.2 Growth.7.1.3 Distortion caused by uneven growth or shrinkage.7.1.4 Distortion c

22、aused by incompatible shrinkage of com-ponents including basic fabrics and items such as zippers,linings, interfacings, interlinings, sewing thread, waist bands,pockets, seam bindings or tape, textile trim, nontextile trim,and labels.7.2 Change in Hand:7.2.1 Changes in the physical properties relate

23、d to the handof fabrics listed in Annex A3 of Terminology D123.7.3 Change in Appearance:7.3.1 Loss or change of color.7.3.2 Staining or self-staining, that is transference, or run-ning of original color from one product to another or from onearea to another area on the same product.7.3.3 Distortion

24、and loss or change in surface appearance orstructure (such as, pilling, fuzzing, snagging, or matting; orloss of nap, flocking, embossing, or fabric smoothness; or othereffects).7.3.4 Change in appearance caused by incompatibility ofcomponents resulting in defects such as puckering of seams.7.3.5 Ch

25、ange in appearance caused by ineffectiveness ofrecommended cleaning procedure, such that the textile productis no longer wearable or acceptable. Stain removal is not to beconsidered in this context.7.4 Change in Performance:7.4.1 Loss of claimed functional properties (stated or im-plied) such as dur

26、able press, water repellency, anti-static,flame-resistant, or soil release.7.4.2 Loss of performance of construction or design causedby sewing (such as, needle cutting, feed-dog abrasion, ravel-ling of seams, removal of appliques and trim, and malfunctionof closures or other hardware).7.4.3 Failure

27、of textile structure resulting from launderingor dry cleaning (for example, delamination).8. Selection of Performance Specifications and TestMethods8.1 If the textile product to be evaluated has no care label,determine a set of care instructions suitable for the item.8.1.1 On making the final determ

28、ination consider factorssuch as fiber content, fabric construction, item construction,findings, color and finish applications, and end use.8.2 If the textile product to be evaluated has an attached carelabel, then confirm the care by using the designated instruc-tions on the label.8.3 Select from th

29、e product characteristics listed in Section7 those specific properties that are to be evaluated for thesamples to be tested.8.3.1 The specific properties are not limited to those ex-amples listed, but may include all items which are agreed uponbetween the purchaser and supplier.8.3.2 Select the perf

30、ormance specification level for eachproduct characteristic to be evaluated.8.4 Select test methods that are comparable with the careinstructions to serve as the basis for evaluation of acceptableperformance for the care label.8.4.1 The test procedures must be at least as severe as theconditions spec

31、ified in the care label instruction.8.5 Tables 1 and 2 list some of the common performancespecifications and test methods.8.5.1 Performance specifications and some test methods arefound in the current editions of the Annual Book of ASTMStandards, Vols 07.01 and 07.02.8.5.2 Some test methods are foun

32、d in the current edition ofthe Technical Manual of the American Association of TextileChemists and Colorists.D3938 1328.6 Subject the product to a minimum of 3 refurbishingcycles.8.6.1 The actual number of complete refurbishing cyclesshall be agreed upon between the purchaser and seller.8.7 The appa

33、ratus and materials used in this guide are thosespecified in the standards and test methods.8.8 Sampling and conditioning methods used in this guideare those specified in the test methods.8.9 Where less common care instructions, for example,“wipe with a damp cloth,” are to be used, an appropriate ca

34、repractice shall be used to evaluate the product.9. Evaluation9.1 Make all evaluations on the refurbished product.9.2 Evaluate the performance of each refurbished samplewith respect to each of the previously designated characteris-tics.9.3 Performance standards should be agreed upon by thepurchaser

35、and supplier or the end-use standards of ASTMCommittee D13 shall be used.9.4 The levels of performance under the applicable carelabel instructions shall meet or exceed those stated in theappropriate ASTM performance specifications or industrystandards.9.4.1 These standards shall be determined by the

36、 purchaserand supplier. It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to meetthese standards.9.5 The test results shall be compared with the appropriateperformance specifications.10. Evaluation Form10.1 The worksheet for recording the evaluation of theproduct must be simple enough for a technician to

37、 use withease and with full understanding.10.2 The worksheet shall make provision for inclusion of allcharacteristics of the product that are important to theconsumer, purchaser, or supplier; including but not limited tothose listed in Section 7 of this guide.10.3 The form shall show the performance

38、 requirements forthe predetermined properties decided upon by those using thisguide.10.4 When completed, the form shall show the evaluationassigned to each performance characteristic for each sample.11. Conformance11.1 If any sample fails to show an acceptable performancewith respect to any of the p

48、dual characteristics.11.3 If the item fails to meet specified levels ofperformance, the care label instructions or the merchandiseshall be changed to meet the specified level of performance andthe care label instructions reconfirmed.11.3.1 When the purchaser and supplier have agreed uponspecific req

49、uirements for the characteristics that are to beconsidered, apparel and other textile products that fail to meetthese requirements may be rejected. Rejection should bereported to the supplier in writing. In case of disagreement withresults of the test, the seller may request for a retest.12. Report12.1 State that the items were tested as directed in the testmethods used. Describe the textile product tested.12.2 Report the following information:12.2.1 Objective of the testing.12.2.2 Description and identification of product(s).12.2
