Scope*1.1 This classification system covers po
3、lyamide-imide ma-terials suitable for injection molding and extrusion.1.2 The properties included in this classification system arethose required to identify the compositions covered. There maybe other requirements necessary to identify particular charac-teristics important to specialized applicatio

These may bespecified by using suffixes as given in Section 5.1.3 This standard allows for the use of recycled materialsprovided that specification requirements based upon this clas-sification system are met.1.4 This classification system and subsequent line call-out(specification) is intended t
5、o be a means of calling out plasticsmaterials used in the fabrication of end items or parts. It is notintended for the selection of materials. Material selectionshould be made by those having expertise in the plastics fieldafter careful consideration of the design and the performancerequired of the

Terminology3.1 The terminology used in this classification system is inaccordance with Terminology D 883 and D 160
19、0.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 polyamide-imide (PAI), na polymer that may becomposed of linkages of all random, or all block, or allalternating, or any combination thereof, amide and imide unitsin the structural backbone.4. Classification4.1 The polyamide-imide materials
20、shall be designated PAI,as specified in Terminology D 1600.4.2 Polyamide-imide materials are classified into groupsthat are subdivided into classes and grades as shown in TablePAI.4.2.1 An example of this classification system is as follows:The designation PAI012L23 would indicate from Table PAI:PAI
21、 = Polyamide-imide as found in Terminology D 1600,01 (Group) = Injection molding material,2 (Class) = Wear resistance PAI, andL23 (Grade) = Nominal 20 % graphite and 3 % PTFE with the require-ments given in Table PAI.4.2.2 To facilitate the incorporation of special materials notcovered in Table PAI,
22、 the “other” category (0) for group, class,and grade is shown on the table with the basic properties to beobtained from Table A.4.3 Table A shall be used to specify the physical propertyrequirements that shall be shown by a six-character designa-tion. The designation shall consist of the letter A an
23、d the fivedigits comprising the cell numbers for the property require-ments in the order as they appear in Table A.4.3.1 Although the values listed are necessary to include therange of properties available in existing materials, users shouldnot infer that every possible combination of the properties

Suffixes5.1 When additional requirements are needed, based onapplication, that are not covered by
29、 the basic requirements(Table PAI) or cell-table requirements (Table A), they shall beindicated through the use of suffixes.5.2 A list of suffixes can be found in Classification SystemD 4000 (Table 3) and may be used for additional requirementsas appropriate. Additional suffixes will be added to Cla

General Requirements6.1 Basic requirements from Table A, as they apply

34、ffixrequirements as they apply.7.2 For the purpose of determining conformance, all speci-fied limits in this specification (line callout) based on thisclassification system, are lot average by round-off, as defined inPractice E 29.7.2.1 With the round-off method, an observed value or acalculated val
35、ue should be rounded off to the nearest unit in thedesignated place of figures. The rounded off value should thenbe compared directly to the specified limiting value. Conform-ance or nonconformance with a specification based on thisclassification system is based on this comparison.8. Sampling8.1 Sam
36、pling shall be statistically adequate to satisfy re-quirements of 12.2. A batch or lot of material shall be definedas material produced in a single compounding run.9. Test Specimen9.1 Dry pellets before molding test specimens. Pellets driedon trays at 149C 300F in a desiccant air drier for aminimum
37、of 24 h have been found to be satisfactory forinjection molding.9.2 Unless otherwise specified, injection and extrusion res-ins test specimens shall be prepared by injection molding inaccordance with Practice D 3641.NOTE 3Typical conditions for molding are melt temperature of 315 to370C 600 to 700F
38、and mold temperature of 195 to 215C 380 to420F, depending on the product. Because of the equipment requirementsand difficulty associated with molding PAI, the manufacturer normallydoes all molding of parts.10. Conditioning10.1 Postcure all test specimens in accordance with themanufacturers instructi
39、ons.10.2 Condition all test specimens for a minimum of 40 h at23 6 2C and 50 6 5 % relative humidity after postcuring andbefore testing.11. Test Methods11.1 Determine the properties enumerated in this classifica-tion system in accordance with the relevant methods as theyapply.11.2 Specify methods fo
40、r reinforcement and additive con-centration.12. Certification and Inspection12.1 Inspection and certification of the material suppliedwith reference to a specification based on this classificationsystem shall be for conformance to the requirements specifiedherein.12.2 Lot acceptance inspection shall
41、 be the basis on whichacceptance or rejection of the lot is made and shall consist ofthe tests listed, as they apply, as follows: tensile strength atbreak, tensile elongation at break, and specific gravity.12.3 Periodic check inspection shall consist of the testsspecified for all requirements of the
42、 material under thisclassification system. Inspection frequency shall be adequate toensure that the material is certifiable in accordance with 12.4NOTE 4If any failure occurs, the material may be retested to establishconformity.12.4 Certification shall state that the material meets therequirements o
43、f the acceptance tests of this classificationsystem in accordance with 12.2. Lot average values shall bereported for the lot acceptance properties as designated by theclassification in accordance with Table PAI.12.5 A report of the test results shall be furnished whenrequested. The report shall cons
44、ist of the lot-acceptance inspec-tion for the shipment. The results of the most recent periodic-check inspection shall also be furnished when requested by thepurchaser.13. Packaging and Package Marking13.1 For packing, packaging, and package marking, theprovisions of Practice D 3892 shall apply.14.
