Physical Requirements5.1 The SEBS modified asphalt shall be homogeneous andfree of water.5.2 The SEBS modified asphalt shall conform to the physi-cal properties prescribed in Table 1.6. Sampling6.1 Sample the material as
17、prescribed in Practice D140/D140M.6.2 If the material is shipped in hot filled cardboard orplastic kegs, obtain samples from the kegs in accordance withthe following procedure:6.2.1 Remove the container from the block of SEBS-modified asphalt, cutting away the liner if present.6.2.2 Using a hatchet
18、or a hot knife, cut two vertical wedgesapproximately 50 mm 2 in. wide and 50 mm 2 in. deepalong the entire length of the material block. Cut the wedgesinto 100-mm 4-in. lengths.6.2.3 Place the wedges in a can with a capacity of 3.8 L 1gal. Loosely cover the can and heat in a convection oven at210 6
19、5C 410 6 9F for a period of 212 612 h. Stir thesample thoroughly to ensure homogeneity.7. Test Methods7.1 Determine compliance with the requirements of thisspecification in accordance with the following methods:7.1.1 Softening PointTest Method D36/D36M.7.1.2 Flash PointTest Method D92.7.1.3 Penetrat

21、d or hotpoured plaque 2.00 6 0.15 mm 0.079 6 0.006 in. thick.7.2.1 The following simple procedure may be used forpreparing a hot poured plaque. Heat the asphalt to 210 6 5C410 6 9F in a convection oven. While heating, place twometal strips of the thickness stated above along the sides of apiece of r
22、elease paper. Pour the heated SEBS-modified asphaltonto the release paper, immediately cover with another piece ofrelease paper, then roll out with a rolling pin, piece of pipe, andso forth, using the metal strips as guides to maintain properspecimen thickness.7.3 Determine tensile elongation as pre
23、scribed by TestMethod D412 using die C. The test shall be made at 23.0 62.0C 73.4 6 3.6F and with a speed of 500 6 25 mm/min20 6 1 in./min.7.4 Determine low temperature flexibility as prescribed byTest Method D3111 using a 25 6 1-mm 1.00 6 0.04-in.diameter mandrel. The specimens shall be 2.00 6 0.15
24、 mm0.079 6 0.006 in. thick.7.5 Determine elastic recovery using the tensile set proce-dure as prescribed by Test Method D412 using die C. The testshall be made at 23.0 6 2.0C 73.4 6 3.6F and with a speedof 500 6 25 mm/min 20 6 1 in./min. Elongate the specimen300 %, then immediately release the lower
25、 jaw to allowrecovery. Record elastic recovery as follows:Recovery, % 5 1004L 2 X!/3L (1)where:L = initial length between benchmarks, andX = length between benchmarks after recovery.7.6 Determine high temperature stability by conditioningthe specimen as prescribed in Section 8. Determine thesoftenin
26、g point of the specimen as prescribed by Test MethodD36/D36M. The softening point of the specimen shall notchange by more than 10C. Determine the penetration of thespecimen as prescribed by Test Method D5/D5M. The penetra-tion of the specimen shall not change by more than 12 units.The softening poin
27、t and penetration of the SEBS-modifiedasphalt shall remain within the specification limits after con-ditioning.8. Stability During Heat Exposure8.1 Scope:8.1.1 The stability of SEBS-modified asphalt is evaluatedby the retention of softening point and penetration after heatexposure. The heat exposure
28、 shall be conducted for8hat2606 5C 500 6 9F.8.1.2 This procedure may require heating asphalt to atemperature in excess of its flash point. Take care to provideadequate ventilation and to avoid ignition sources.8.2 Apparatus:8.2.1 CanUse a lidded can with a capacity of 0.95 L 1 qtand capable of withs
29、tanding a temperature of 300C 572F.The can shall not be coated or lined with a material that willreact with asphalt at 300C 572F.8.3 Procedure:8.3.1 In a convection oven heat the SEBS-modified asphaltto 210 6 10C 410 6 18F and pour 500 6 50 g into a 0.95L 1 qt can. Place the lid loosely on the can.8
30、.3.2 Immediately place the can in a convection ovenpreheated to 260 6 5C 500 6 9F. Inspection9.1 Inspection of the material shall be agreed upon betweenthe purchaser and the supplier as part of the purchase contract.10. Rejection and Resubmittal10.1 Failure to conform to any of the requirements pre-scribed in the
34、specification shall constitute grounds for rejec-tion. In case of rejection, the seller shall have the right toreinspect the rejected material and resubmit the lot afterremoval of those packages not conforming to the requirements.11. Packaging and Package Marking11.1 The SEBS-modified asphalt shall
35、be packaged suitably,if not shipped in bulk, to permit acceptance by the carrier andto afford adequate protection from the normal hazards ofhandling and shipping.11.2 Each container (or bill of lading if shipped in bulk)shall be marked plainly with the name of the manufacturer orseller, the ASTM des
36、ignation and type of product, the flashpoint, and the manufacturers recommended application tem-perature for mop and mechanical spreader application.12.
