Scope1.1 This test method covers requirements and test methodsfor the material, dimensions, and workmanship, and the prop-erties of extruded and compression-molded sheet, plate, rodand tubular bar manufactured from polyetherimide (PEI)resins.1.2 The properties included in this test method ar
4、e thoserequired for the compositions covered. It is possible that otherrequirements will be necessary to identify particular character-istics important to specialized applications. These shall beagreed upon between the user and the supplier, by using thesuffixes as given in Section 5.1.3 This test m

Aspace shall be used as a separator between the specificationnumber and the ty
36、pe designation. No separators are neededbetween type, class, and grade. When special notes are to beincluded, such information shall be preceded by a comma.Special tolerances shall be noted at time of order and areinserted after the grade in parentheses and preceded by acomma.5. Physical Properties5
37、.1 The physical property values listed within this testmethods tables are to be considered minimum specificationvalues. Any requirement for specific test data for a givenproduction lot shall be specified at the time of order. Physicalproperties for products not yet included in Table S-PEI shall besp
38、ecified using Table 1 for extruded products.6. Dimensions6.1 The type, class, and grade shall be further differentiatedbased on dimensional stability (elevated temperature excursiontest), Table S-PEI, and dimensional requirements, Tables A andB. Products shall be produced within commercial tolerance
39、sand with the lowest stress levels for machined parts asdelineated in Tables A and B for compression-molded extrudedproducts. The manner in which the tolerances are obtained isnot relevant. This shall be designated in each callout asreferenced in 4.5, Examples 1 and 2.6.2 Tubular bar dimensions shal
40、l be supplied in the unfin-ished condition, unless otherwise specified at time of order,sufficient to finish to the nominal dimension ordered.6.3 The maximum allowable camber or bow or both shall bewithin the limits referenced in Tables A and B.7. Workmanship, Finish and Appearance7.1 AppearanceThe
41、color of products shall be as pub-lished by the shapes manufacturer. They shall be uniform incolor throughout the thickness. Specific colors and colormatching only as agreed to by order. In some cases, physicalproperties are affected by colors.7.2 FinishAll products shall be free of blisters, wrinkl
42、es,cracks, gouges, and defects that restrict commercial use of theproduct. Special surface finish shall be supplied only whenspecified in the purchase order or contract.7.3 DefectsAll products shall be free of voids, dirt,foreign material, and embedded particles exceeding132-in.0.8-mm maximum diamet
43、er as defined in 7.3.1.7.3.1 The criteria for determining the internal cleanlinessshall be external visual inspection. A maximum number of twointernal defects per square foot of plate/sheet and 1-ft 0.3-mlength of rod and tubular bar. Clusters of defects less than132-in. 0.8-mm diameter shall be cou
44、nted as a single defect.8. Sampling8.1 Sampling shall be statistically adequate to satisfy therequirements of this test method as applicable.8.2 For purposes of sampling, an inspection lot for exami-nation and tests shall consist of all material of the same type,class, grade, and nominal size submit
45、ted for inspection at onetime.9. Number of Tests9.1 Routine lot inspection shall consist of all the criteriaspecified in the applicable product tables.9.2 The criteria listed in these product tables and definitionsare sufficient to establish conformity of the sheet, plate, rod, ortubular bars to thi
46、s test method. When the number of testspecimens is not stated in the test method, a single determina-tion shall be made. If more than single determinations andseparate portions of the same sample are made, the results shallbe averaged. The final result shall conform to the requirementsprescribed in

Test Conditions PEI10.1 Conditioning of SpecimensThe specification valuesand dimensions are based on Practice D 618, Procedure A.10.2 Standard TemperatureThe tests shall be conducted atthe standard laboratory temperature of 73.4 6 3.6F 23 62C and 50 6 5 % relative humidity (RH).
