Classification4.1 This specification covers a tube that is intended to beused one time only. It is not to
6、 be confused with a reusable tubethat is described in other published standards. The tubes shallbe of the following types:4.1.1 Type Istandard Westergren tube to be used inconventional racks only, and4.1.2 Type IIself-zeroing tubes to be used with racksdesigned with convenient disposable tube featur
7、es.5. Materials5.1 GlassThe tubes made to this specification shall befabricated from borosilicate glass, Type I, Class B, or soda limeglass, Type II, in accordance with Specification E438.6. Physical Requirements6.1 Design, Type I and IIThe Westergren tube shall bemade of one-piece construction from
8、 tubing that is straight andof uniform bore. The ends of the tube shall be cut at rightangles to the axis of the tube and fire polished.6.1.1 Type II onlyEach tube shall have an absorbantcotton plug inserted in the tube with the bottom edge of theplug aligned with the 0 mm calibration line. The alig
9、nment ofthe plug to the calibration line should not vary by more than 1mL. The plug must be capable of supporting a 200 mm verticalcolumn of water when the plug has been thoroughly soaked.NOTE 1With possible printing scale variation and cotton plug align-ment to the calibration line variation, the b
10、ottom of the cotton plug is tobe located 200 6 1 mm from the bottom of the tube.6.2 WorkmanshipThe tube shall be free as possible fromvisible defects which would detract from its appearance orimpair its serviceability when viewed by the human eye undernormal room lighting. Self-zeroing tubes are to
11、be used withracks designed with convenient disposable tube features.6.3 DimensionsDimensions and tolerances shall be inaccordance with Fig. 1. The uniformity of the bore shall be60.15 mm throughout the tube. The tube shall have aninscribed graduated scale extending over the lower 200 6 1.0mm of the
12、tube. The markers or vendors name or mark shallbe inscribed on the tube in a selected location. Inscription ofthe word “Westergren” on the tube is optional. Type II tubesmay be made of varied lengths from 230 to 243 mm long withthe selected length within this range confined to a 61mmtolerance.6.4 Gr
13、aduation LinesThickness of graduation lines mayvary in uniformity but shall not exceed 0.4 mm in thickness.They shall lie at right angles to the axis of the tube with amaximum tolerance between two adjacent markings of 0.25mm. Maximum tolerance for the total 200 mm scale shall notexceed 1.0 mm.6.5 G
14、raduation Line NumberingThe tube shall be gradu-ated in millimetres with a scale of 200 mm from the tip of thetube.
