1、Designation: E2499 11Standard Practice forClassification of Asset Physical Location Information1This standard is issued under the fixed designation E2499; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A

2、 number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This practice covers standardizing practices and termi-nology related to information conveying the physical locationof assets.1.2 This

3、 practice describes ten increasingly specific levelsof asset physical location information, assigning a standardname and level number to each.1.3 There is no existing, recognized practice for recording, discussing, and comparing physical location information.1.4 This practice is designed to be applic

4、able and appropri-ate for all asset-holding entities.1.5 In addition to applicability to assets, this practice may inwhole or in part be effectively applied to intangible property, real property, and materiel.1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated

5、with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2. Terminology2.1 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:2.1.1 building location, nasset physical l

6、ocation informa-tion representing the building position of the item within thesite location.2.1.2 city/township/county location, nasset physical loca-tion information representing the city, township, or countyposition of the item within the state/province location.2.1.3 country location, nasset phys

7、ical location informa-tion representing the country position of the item.2.1.4 desk/shelf/bench location, nasset physical locationinformation representing the desk, shelf, or bench position ofthe item within the room/post/station/area location.2.1.5 floor location, nasset physical location informati

8、onrepresenting the floor position of the item within the buildinglocation.2.1.6 physical location level, nasset physical locationinformation represented by nomenclature or physical locationlevel number.2.1.7 precise location, nasset physical location informa-tion representing the precise position of

10、 position of the item within the city/township/county location.2.1.10 space location, nasset physical location informa-tion representing the position of the item if other than on ornear the surface of the earth.2.1.11 spatial coordinate systems, nany system that per-mits use of numeric values to ide

Significance and Use3.1 This practice estab

12、lishes a notational and conversationalapproach to asset physical location information to enableprecision in requirements and results related to asset physicallocation tracking.3.2 It is intended that this practice fosters and enablesadditional practices related to or based on asset physicallocation

18、LL 5 is required or applicable.5.3 This practice does not require that all levels be used ina given situation.5.3.1 The required specificity shall be determined andrecorded. This may be done for all assets or for specific subsetsof assets. For example, one company in an office environmentmay determi

Another, similar company may determinethat assets will be tracked to PLL 6, building location.5.3.2 The required generality of information recorded andcommunicated will depend on transactional requirements andthe location prof

For example, if all of a companys assets are locatedin one building, information for PLL 5 and below for each assetmay not be recorded, but may be added as general informationwhen required.5.3.3 Intermediate levels not applicable to a given sit

21、uationshall be determined and specified. For example, an entity maynot require use of PLL 8, room/post/station/area location, asPLL 9, desk/shelf location, within PLL 7, floor location, mayadequately and appropriately convey the physical locationinformation.5.4 It is recognized that other location t

22、racking and record-ing mechanisms not based in whole or in part on physicallocation information may be appropriately used in conjunctionwith or separately from this practice. For example, informationtechnology may be used to determine the logical location ofassets connected to a network. This logica

23、l location informa-tion may or may not be correlated to physical locationinformation for this asset. The functional location of assetswithin a level of physical location information may be used. For example, an asset may be recorded with PLL 6, buildingphysical location information, and then listed w

Where spatial tracking is used, the precision of thenumerical representation may be correlated to the level ofgranularity expressed in this p
