Scope1.1 This specification covers film adhesives for

3、bonding ofhoneycomb sandwich panels. The adhesives are used for newproduction or depot repair. The adhesives shall be suitable forforming bonds that can withstand long exposures to tempera-tures from 55 to 93C (67 to 200F) and also withstand thecombinations of stress, temperature, and relative humid

4、ityexpected to be encountered in service. The adhesives shall beused for bonding aluminum alloy facing to nonmetallic core,edge attachments, and other components of a sandwich panel.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard where only SI units are given or where SI units ar

5、egiven first followed by inch-pound units; where inch-poundunits are given first followed by SI units, the inch-pound unitsare to regarded as the standard.2. Ordering Information3.1 Procurement DocumentsPurchasers shall select anyof the desired options offered herein and the procurement

11、documents shall specify the following:3.1.1 Title, number, and date of this specification,3.1.2 Adhesive type and code number,3.1.3 Amounts and unit quantities of adhesives required,3.1.4 Length, width, and film weight of adhesive,3.1.5 Curing conditions,3.1.6 Level of packaging and packing required

12、, and3.1.7 Whether or not qualification (see 3.2) is necessary.3.2 QualificationIn the case of adhesives for which thepurchaser requires qualification, the procurement documentsshall state that awards will be made only for adhesives that are,at the time set for opening of bids, qualified for inclusi

13、on in theapplicable qualified products list.4. 17、ed.4.2 Form and Film WeightThe adhesive shall be filmform and shall consist either entirely of adhesive or of a carrierimpregnated with adhesive. The film weight shall be within therange specified in Table 1.4.3 AppearanceThe adhesive film shall be uniform inappearance. It shall be of a uniform coat

18、ing that is free ofstreaks and color variations.4.4 QualificationAt the option of the purchaser, the ad-hesive may be required to be a product (see 6.3) for listing onthe applicable qualified products list at the time set for openingof bids. The qualification shall only apply to the formulation onwh

19、ich qualification tests have been made. Any changes by themanufacturer, such as the adding of fillers, changing the carrier,changing the method of manufacture, or changing the mass perunit area, shall be cause for designating the adhesive as a newproduct. The new product shall be given a new code nu

20、mberand shall not be approved until it has been shown to meet therequirements of the specification.4.5 Working Characteristics:4.5.1 ApplicationThe adhesive shall be suitable for appli-cation to metal facings and core materials in accordance withthe manufacturers instructions at temperatures between

21、 18 and30C (65 and 85F) and at relative humidities of up to 50 %.4.5.2 CuringThe time, temperature, and pressure used tocure the adhesive shall be within the range specified herein.4.5.2.1 Curing Time and TemperatureThe adhesive shallmeet the requirements of this specification when cured for notlong

22、er than1hatabond line temperature not exceeding 145C(293F).4.5.2.2 Curing PressureIn the preparation of specimensfabricated for qualification, the pressure required for curing theadhesive shall not be less than 140 kPa (20 psi) nor more than350 kPa (50 psi).4.6 Storage LifeThe adhesive manufacturer

23、shall deter-mine the maximum temperature and the storage period at thistemperature (from date of manufacture) for which the adhe-sive, when stored in airtight containers or wrapped in suitablevapor barriers, will retain its ability to meet the strengthrequirements specified in Table 1. These storage

24、 conditionsshall be stated in the instruction sheet (see 6.3.1.1).4.7 Mechanical PropertiesThe average mechanical prop-erties of the adhesive shall meet the requirements of Table 1.5. Test Methods5.1 Qualification TestsFor qualification, the adhesiveshall be tested using the tests described in this

25、section. Sheartests shall be performed in accordance with Test MethodD 1002.5.2 Preparation of Test SpecimensPrepare at least tenspecimens for each separate test except as otherwise specifiedin the individual test methods. The metal bonded shall be6061T6 or 5052H34 aluminum alloy (Federal Specificat

26、ionQQ-A-250/11d or QQ-A-250/8d, respectively or SpecificationB 209) cleaned as described in Practice E 864 and at thepurchasers option, primed in accordance with SpecificationE 866 or Specification E 1826. Time and temperature of curingof the adhesive shall be in accordance with the adhesivemanufact

27、urers most recent recommendation. Test panels orspecimens, or both, other than the breakaway type shall be cutin such a manner that minimum vibration or heat is generatedduring the cutting operation.5.3 Normal-Temperature Lap ShearSubject specimens toa lap shear test at normal temperature 25 6 3C (7

28、76 5F).5.4 High-Temperature Lap ShearTest specimens at 60 63C (140 6 5F) and 93 6 3C (2006 5F). Bring thespecimen to temperature as indicated by a thermocouple at thebond area and stabilize for 10 min just prior to test. Stabilizethe chamber used to test the specimens at the test temperaturefor 45 m

29、in prior to testing.5.5 Low-Temperature Lap ShearTest specimens at 55 63C (67 6 5F). Bring the specimen to temperature asindicated by a thermocouple at the bond area and stabilize for10 min just prior to test. Stabilize the chamber used to test thespecimens at the test temperature for 45 min prior t

30、o testing.5.6 Humidity Exposure Lap ShearTest lap shear speci-mens at 93 6 3C (200 6 5F) after 2 weeks exposure to 956 5 % relative humidity and 936 3C (200F 6 5F). Bringthe specimen to temperature as indicated by a thermocouple atthe bond area and test within 2 min. The test chamber used totest the

31、 specimens shall be stabilized at the test temperature forat least 45 min prior to testing. Start the test of each humidityexposure lap shear test specimen no later than 30 min afterremoving it from the humidity chamber.5.7 Salt Spray Exposure Lap ShearTest specimens inaccordance with the salt spray

40、ore, TypeIV of Specification E 1091, and 0.5-mm (0.02-in.) skins) inaccordance with 5.11, except stabilize the test temperature at93 6 3C (200 6 5F) for 10 min as determined by athermocouple adjacent to the specimen skin. The test chamberused to test the specimens shall be stabilized at the testtemp

41、erature for at least 45 min prior to testing.5.13 Flatwise Tensile StrengthTest five specimens (con-structed using 50-mm (2-in.) deep core, Type IV of Specifica-tion E 1091, and 0.50-mm (0.02-in.) thick skins) in accordancewith Test Method C 297, except that 76.2 by 76.2-mm (3 by3-in.) test specimen

42、s shall be used with corresponding 76.2 by76.2-mm (3 by 3-in.) tension blocks. Test the specimens atnormal temperature 25 6 3C (77 6 5F) and at a relativehumidity of 50 6 10 %.NOTE 2Core may be dried prior to preparation of test specimen.6. Inspection6.1 Responsibility for InspectionUnless otherwise

43、 speci-fied in the contract or purchase order, the supplier is respon-sible for the performance of all inspection requirements asspecified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contractor order, the supplier may use his own or any other facilitiessuitable for the performance of inspection req

44、uirements speci-fied herein unless disapproved by the purchaser. The purchaserhas the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in thespecification where such inspections are deemed necessary toassure compliance with the requirements.6.2 Classification of InspectionsThe inspection require-me

45、nts specified herein are classified as follows:6.2.1 Qualification inspection (see 6.3), and6.2.2 Quality conformance inspection (see 6.4).6.3 Qualification Inspection:6.3.1 Qualification TestUnless otherwise specified by thepurchaser (see 3.2), adhesives that have not passed the quali-fication test

46、s, or that have previously passed the tests but havesubsequently been modified in any manner, must be testedagainst this specification and shown to meet its requirements.6.3.1.1 Instruction SheetA dated, coded, and titled in-struction sheet that outlines instructions for use of the adhesivein bondin

47、g metal facings to paper cores and metal componentsshall be supplied by the manufacturer. These instructions shallbe forwarded with the test report (see 6.3.3) when requestingqualification. In addition, a copy of the instruction sheet shallaccompany each shipment of the adhesive.At the option of the

48、purchaser, qualification tests may be repeated at any time onmaterial previously found satisfactory.6.3.2 Periodic ReevaluationAreevaluation of an adhesiveshall be made at 5-year intervals after the date of notification ofthe products acceptability for qualification.6.3.2.1 Reevaluation ProcedureIt

49、shall be the responsibil-ity of the supplier of the qualified adhesive to furnish to thepurchaser, at 5-year intervals, the data necessary to confirm thecontinued conformity of the product to the qualification re-quirements. These data shall be complete test results for asample representative of current production, tested against allthe requirements of the specification. In the event the date forrequalification has passed and no current production materialsor data are available for reevaluatio
