3、ing socket fusion joints between polyethylene pipe ortubing and fittings as specified by Specifications D3035,D2513, and D2683. This specification covers newly manufac-tured heater faces and used heater faces which have beenrecoated. Requirements for materials, workmanship, and di-mensions are inclu

4、ded. Where applicable on this specification,“pipe” shall mean “pipe” and “tubing.”1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.1.3

Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 GeneralDefinitions are in accordance with Termi-nology F412 and abbreviations are in accordance

8、 with Termi-nology D1600, unless otherwise specified.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 chamfer toola device that is used to chamfer theoutside edge of the pipe. The chamfer allows the pipe end toeasily enter the pipe heater face and easily enter the heatedfitting. Chamfering i

9、s optional for all sizes but commonly donefor 114-in. IPS and larger sizes.3.2.2 depth gagea device that is used to locate therounding clamp a prescribed distance from the end of the pipe.3.2.3 heating toola device used to heat the heater faces.3.2.4 fitting heater face or adapterA block of heat con

10、-ducting material that attaches to the heating tool and isdimensioned to melt the internal surface of the fitting socket.3.2.5 pipe heater face or adapter A block of heat con-ducting material that attaches to the heating tool and isdimensioned to melt the external surface of the pipe.NOTE 1The fitti

11、ng heater face and pipe heater face can be in one blockof heat conducting material.3.2.6 rounding clamp or cold ringa device that is clampedaround the pipe to round the pipe and limit the distance the pipeend goes into the pipe heater face and the socket fitting.4. Materials and Manufacture4.1 Heate

12、r faces may be manufactured from aluminum,steel, or other suitable heat conducting material.NOTE 2Polyethylene may stick to hot metal heating surfaces. Thissticking may be minimized by covering the heating surfaces with astick-resistant coating such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or polyphe-nylen

13、e sulfide (PPS). Copper or copper alloys are not suitable withoutcoating because some polyolefins react with copper.5. Dimensions, Mass, and Permissible Variations5.1 Heater face dimensions and tolerances shall be as shownin Table 1. The dimensions in Table 1 are for heater faces at thecommonly used

14、 operating temperature of 500F (260C).Annex A1 contains Table A1.1 which gives dimensions tomeasure for coated aluminum faces at 73.4F (23C).1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F17 on PlasticPiping Systems and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee F17.20 on Joining

18、ee.15.2 Depth gage dimensions and tolerances shall be as shownin Table 2.5.3 Chamfer dimensions shall be limited to a maximum of20 % of the ASTM depth gage depth along the pipe wall and60 % of the wall thickness.6. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance6.1 The manufacture of these socket fusion tools s

19、hall be inaccordance with good commercial practice so as to producesocket fusion tools meeting the requirements of this specifica-tion. Heater faces shall have surfaces free of cracks, voids,foreign inclusions, or injurious defects.7. Sampling7.1 Select at random a sufficient quantity of socket fusi

20、ontools from each lot to be tested to determine that the basicproperties and dimensions are in conformance with this speci-fication.8. Inspection8.1 Inspection of socket fusion tools shall be agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the supplier as part of the purchasecontract.8.2 Inspection for dimensi

21、onal accuracy shall be done withdial calipers, micrometers, or similar devices that have anaccuracy within 0.001 in. (0.025 mm).9. Product Marking9.1 Each heater face or depth gage shall, space permitting,be permanently marked with the following on a portion of theheater face or depth gage which wil

32、point of measurement of “E” diameter only and not as a limit of actual socket tool depth. The depth of the pipe heater face socketmay be of any dimension greater than “F”.F1056 1829.1.4 Where the size of the heater face or depth gage doesnot allow complete identification marking may be omitted inthe

33、 following sequence:ASTM designation number, and manu-facturers name or trademark.10. Packaging and Package Marking10.1 The heater faces or depth gages shall be packaged inaccordance with the suppliers standard practice in a mannerensuring arrival at destination in satisfactory condition.10.2 Indivi

34、dual heater face packages, heater face set (that ispipe heater face and fitting heater face of the same size)packages, or depth gage packages shall be labeled with thefollowing:10.2.1 Nominal size of pipe for which the heater face ordepth gage is designed; including IPS or CTS designation;10.2.2 Man

35、ufacturers name or trademark, and10.2.3 ASTM designation number.11. Quality Assurance11.1 When the product is marked with this designation,F1056, the manufacturer affirms that the product wasmanufactured, inspected, sampled, and tested in accordancewith this specification and has been found to meet
