Scope1.1 This specification covers the design, construction, andinstallation of intermediate portable flush
3、deck stanchions.Intermediate stanchion is defined as any stanchion that is not anend or corner stanchion.1.2 Stanchions shall be used on interior and exterior decks,to provide temporary protection to minimize the danger ofpersonnel falling overboard or to a lower level in the ship inareas where the
4、installation of a fixed system would interferewith vessel operations.1.3 Stanchions may be used with38-in. (9.5-mm) galva-nized close link chain or wire rope lifelines916-in. Materials and Manufacture5.1 Materials:5.1.1 Pipe for stanchion shall be in accordance with Speci-fication A106/A106M, Grade A or B, NPS 112 , Schedule 80,carbon steel.5.1.2 Staple shall be in accordance with Specification F783,Table 1, Type II.5.1.3 Socket shall be in accordance w

Other Requirements6.1 Stanchions shall be installed in accordance with contactrequirements or as specified below:6.1.1 Portable flush deck stanchions shall not be used oninclined ladders.6.1.2 Type I StanchionsRequired on bridges, platfo
17、rms,walkways, and elsewhere as needed in accordance with Title46 CFR (see 3.1).6.1.3 Type II StanchionsRequired along the exposed pe-ripheries of freeboards, weather decks and superstructure decksin accordance with Title 46 CFR (see 3.1).7. Installation7.1 The intended installation is to follow thes
18、e generalguidelines:7.1.1 There shall be a maximum clearance of 4 in. (101.6mm) between stanchion centerline and other structure.7.1.2 Sockets shall be installed and aligned so that stan-chions are perpendicular to the ships baseline.7.1.3 Stanchions shall be installed with 10 ft (3050 mm)maximum be
19、tween centers; 6 ft (1830 mm) minimum.7.1.4 Socket plugs shall be provided for installation in deckwhen stanchions are stowed.7.1.5 The top of stanchions may be provided with a cou-pling for stowage of socket plugs when stanchions are in use.See Fig. 4.8. Workmanship, Finish and Appearance9.1 Stanchions shall be free of weld spatter, slag splinters,sharp edges, burrs, projections, and other defects hazardous topersonnel.9.2 Galvanizing destroyed after fabricat
22、ion shall be repairedby the application of cold-galvanizing compound.10. Testing10.1 Hammer test deck sockets for soundness and strength.10.2 Test at least one stanchion of each platform or deck byapplication of a load horizontally in accordance with themethods in “Strength and Stiffness of Metal Ra
