The standard was first published in 1976 in the form of a series of Parts to provide test m
、ethods that would be of general applicability to all types of adhesives. The first edition included a General Introduction, of which this Part is a revision, which listed the methods already published as separate Parts of BS5350 and those for which future publication was envisaged. The methods were
、classified into several groups. As a result of experience in the use of the methods and to meet the need for test methods to be referred to in specifications for particular adhesives or applications published as separate British Standards, additional methods of test have been added and the number of
、 groups has been extended. The majority of methods now included in BS 5350 are still intended to be of general applicability, but some methods specific to end-use or types of adhesives have been included in the expectation that they will thus find wider use. Parts B3, B6, B7, C8 and D5, listed in th
、e 1976 edition as being in preparation, have subsequently been deleted from the programme of work. Parts C2, D1, D2 and D3 also listed in the 1976 edition as being in preparation, are covered by projects in preparation within Technical Committee61 Plastics, of the International Organization for Stan
、dardization (ISO), and will be considered for publication in due course as Parts of BS5350. This Part of BS 5350 supersedes BS 5350: General Introduction: 1976 which is now withdrawn. The methods at present included in BS 5350 are classified into groups as follows: Group A Adherends; Group B Adhesiv
、es; Group C Adhesively bonded joints: mechanical tests; Group D Adhesively bonded joints: environmental tests; Group E Sampling and analysis of test data; Group F Tests for flooring adhesives; Group G Physical tests on anaerobic adhesives; Group H Physical tests on hot-melt adhesives. The methods de
、scribed in BS 5350 are based on those already available from other British Standards and other national and international sources as well as those used by the Ministry of Defence. Some of the methods are derived from work in ISO/TC 61. It is the intention that future methods developed in ISO/TC 61,
、which are approved by the UK, should be incorporated as Parts of BS 5350. Several test methods for adhesives are included in other British Standards. Some of these are specific test methods and some are included as parts of specifications for products or for particular applications. A list of the ti
