19、assageofwaterthroughthegeotextile.Aspecimenissubjected toasteadilyincreasingpressureofwaterononeface,understandardconditions, untilpenetrationoccurs.Thepressure,atwhichwaterpenetratesthegeotextile,is noted.Thewaterpressuremaybeappliedfrombeloworfromabovethespecimen. Theresultisimmediatelyrelevanttothebehaviourofgeotextileswhichare subjectedtowaterpressureforshortormoderateperiodsoftime.Themethodis primarilyintendedforlowpermeabilitygeotextiles. 4 Apparatus 4.1Theapparatususedforthetestshouldbedesignedtocomplywiththefollowing conditions. 4.1.1I
21、tshouldbepossibletoclampthecircularspecimenofgeotextileinsuchaway that: itishorizontalandnotbulging; acircularareaofthespecimenof(100 1)cmissubjectedtosteadily increasingwaterpressurefrombeloworfromabovethespecimen; noleakageofwatertakesplaceattheclampsduringthetest; thespecimendoesnotslipintheclamp

29、lamptheconditionedspecimeninthe testheadsothatthefaceofthegeotextilewillbeincontactwiththewater.The clampingshallbecarriedoutinsuchawaythatwaterwillnotbeforcedthroughthe specimenpriortothestartofthetest. 7.3Subjectthespecimenimmediatelytoincreasingwaterpressure.Watch continuouslyforevidenceofpenetra
30、tionbywater. 7.4Recordthepressureasconventionalmillimetresofwater,atwhichwaterfirst appearsincontinuousdropletformthroughthespecimen. 7.5Continuetoincreasethewaterpressureandrecordthemaximumwater pressureachieved.Donottakeintoaccountveryfinedropletswhichdonotgrow afterbeingformed.Notewhetherthepenet
