、28084: 1982-09. 1 This standard provides a method for calculating the design strength of welded and loose support rings mainly used in process engineering to secure vessels to bearing frames. Further specifications regarding the design and dimensions of support rings are covered by DIN 28084-2. DIN

、28084-3 deals with support rings designed to DIN 28084-2 for mixing vessels made from unalloyed or stainless steel as specified in the DIN 28136 series. For specifications on glass-lined steel mixing vessels, refer to DIN 28145-4. Scope and field of application Continued on pages 2 to 8. Translation

As specifications of clause 5 relate to bearing frame openings and ring supports of var

、ious diameters, the location of the lines of application of force and lever arms (cf. subclauses 5.2.1, 5.2.2 and figures 3 to 8) differ from case to case. The following calculations are based on the assumption that, as shown in figure 2, support rings are concentric with the bearing frame opening a

、nd the load is borne either by the entire bearing surface (full-face support) or by eight individual points of support (single-point support). NOTE: Care should be taken so that the bearing surface is not deformed. I) Diameter, d, as illustrated here, is the effective inside diameter defined by the

、eight points of support. Figure 2: Single-point support 5 Calculation of design strength 5.1 General The ring thickness is to be calculated according to AD-Merkblatts 3/5, with a distinction being made between full-face and single-point support rings. The following method may be used to either deter

、mine the maximum safe working load of support rings with a given thickness or the minimum thickness required for a given load. It may be applied by analogy for support rings with dimensions other than those specified in DIN 28084-2 and DIN 28084-3 as long as the width (outside diameter minus inside

、diameter) of rings exceeds the thickness. 5.2 Design assumptions Where support rings are welded to the vessel, it is assumed that the shell or jacket is under maximum internal pressure. Where this is not the case, the Richtlinien-Katalog Festigkeit provides an appropriate method of calculation by wh

、ich greater maximum loads may be obtained for a particular ring thickness. Depending on the type of support (full-face or single-point), the maximum safe working load varies. It is assumed that - diameter d, is greater than diameter d, (see figures 3 and 4); - diameter d, is smaller than diameter d,

、 in the case illustrated in figure 5; - diameter d, is greater than diameter d, in the case illustrated in figure 6. The assumptions regarding the lever arms of ring supports made in subclauses 5.2.1 and 5.2.2 are on the safe side as they allow for a certain degree of elastic deformation or imperfec

、tions resulting from the ring manufac- turing process (e.g. caused by weld distortion). In the case of full-face support rings, it is assumed that the inner edge of the bearing frame will not be overloaded. By improving the vessel design, lower thickness values than those obtained by calculations ba

、sed AD-Merkblatt S 315 may be obtained. 5.2.1 Loose support rings The calculation of lever arms for loose support rings is based on the following assumptions: a) for all types of support, the inside bearing diameter shall be deemed equal to d,; b) for full-face support rings, the outside bearing dia

、meter shall be deemed equal to 0,5 (d4 + dJ (see figure 3); c) for single-point support, the outside bearing diameter shall be deemed equal to d, (see figure 4).
